Dave Irvine Snapper Classic a Success
  |  First Published: June 2009

70 boats with 174 anglers on board fished the 2009 (the third) version of the Dave Irvine Snapper Classic out of Coffs Harbour on the 6th and 7th of June. Dave’s Environets and Brag Mats are his legacy and are heavily used in this catch and release event.

Over $40,000 in prizes and giveaways were awarded in this event, where anglers can use soft plastic lures only. An Evinrude 25HP E-Tec was given away in the major lucky draw – it was worth $5,300 and was taken home by Sydney’s Joel Tegert.

Rated in the top ten local events for the Coffs Coast, the weather smiled on competitors with plenty of anglers troubling the scorers in each of the three sessions. Winning team, Black Magic, caught and released 32 snapper in the second fishing session!

Guest appearances by Starlo, Michael Guest and Scot Amon kept the interest up at the Reef Science tank, and plenty of activities for the kids and giveaways made for a happy crowd. Every Junior entered got a $50 Fishing Tackle Australia voucher, for instance.

The Committee would like to thank the major sponsors: Shimano, Berkley, BRP, Lowrance, Platypus and the Coffs Harbour Deep Sea Fishing Club. – DIMSC.
