Over the Christmas period, Mad Keen Clothing, in conjunction with QFM, ran a very popular junior slogan competition on the Mad Keen Junior Page.
The competition invited junior anglers to make up their own Mad Keen Clothing slogan that showed their passion and commitment to fishing. Heaps of entries were received at Mad Keen and the judges had a tough time deciding which slogan would be the winner. After entries closed, the panel of judges decided that Katarnya Lee from Ayr had created the best slogan.
The winning slogan was “My Reputation is on the Line”.
So how did Katarnya come up with the slogan and what drives this young lady in a recreation that is dominated by males? We spoke to Katarnya and her mother to find out what goes on with the girls on the central Queensland coast.
Making the recent move from Kowanyama to just outside of Ayr, the Lee family has always been keen on their fishing. Katarnya told us she has always loved fishing and really loves her barra fishing. Bait fishing, lure casting or trolling, it doesn’t matter – Katarnya is really into it all.
When asked about the slogan she said, “I was watching some old video footage of us fishing for barra and my Dad always used to say “Katarnya, your reputation is on the line,” because I used to always beat him fishing. I kind of adopted the saying and asked Dad every time we went fishing if my reputation was on the line again. He’d say it was and on just about every fishing video we have I say it.
“I’ve always loved fishing, but it was probably Dad who got me into fishing the most,” she said. “Now I hassle him to take me out fishing!”
It’s great to see young people involved in fishing and it’s great to see Mad Keen getting behind kids and fishing.
Congratulations to Katarnya and we hope she will continue on fishing and continue to outfish her dad!
