  |  First Published: April 2011

Fishing, 4WD, camper trailers, big and small boats, lures, tents and sleeping bags....what more could a family want? At Queensland’s biggest outdoor show - Brisbane Tinnie and Tackle Show and National 4x4 Show and Outdoors Expo in April 2011, you will find all this and more.

To make this an even more incredible day out, former AFL star Peter ‘Spida’ Everett from The Great Australian Doorstep will be meeting and greeting fans while cooking up a storm on the Waeco Outback Stage over the weekend.

And in case this isn’t enough, internationally renowned fishing fanatic and adrenalin junkie Matt Watson from the Ultimate Fishing Show will also be giving his top fishing tips and sharing his extreme adventures.

National 4x4 and Outdoors Show Event Manager Mark Petersen said to have these names at the 2011 show is exciting news for those who love their weekend toys and outdoor experiences.

“Each year the shows get bigger and better and the 2011 show will continue the trend. Our 4x4 & Outdoors exhibitor space is already 90% sold out with many great exhibitors already signed up,” he said.

Show highlights include The Waeco Outback Stage, where outdoor enthusiasts can pick up details on 4wd tips and techniques, camping, outdoor and cooking tips. Special guests will be taking to the stage and sharing their experiences.

The Action Arena is a regular crowd pleaser with a full 4WD test track, providing visitors with a hands-on “off the beaten track experience”.

Mr Petersen said the Action Arena will give patrons the opportunity to learn from qualified instructors and get tips on how to approach hill climbs, rock and log crossings and much more. Show-goers should also make plans to catch the Loveday 4x4 Extreme Show and the Mini Bike Mayhem Stage.

Queensland boaties can look forward to getting the first look at new release boats from Bundaberg boat builder Sea Jay.

Other highlights will include the popular Bream Invitational Fishing Tournament including live weighs-in every afternoon of the show, plus expert presentations from top speakers including; Bill Corten, Dave Downie, Jason Ehrlich and Brett Thomson on the Fishing Expo Stage.

This year will also see the return of the hugely popular Sports Fishing Simulator, where visitors can hook themselves a virtual fish.

For kids, the Marine Zone is back – the ‘2 Bent Rods’ team will be teaching children how to fish like the pro’s, as well as the basics of safe and responsible shore-based fishing practices.

Marine Queensland events manager Jason Plant said “The 2011 show has been expanded and improved upon and we’re expecting record numbers of both visitors and exhibitors,”

With more on-site parking facilities, and more exhibition space than ever before the 2011 Brisbane Tinnie and Tackle Show and National 4x4 Show is must for everyone who loves getting outdoors.

Don’t Miss This
Kids Fishing Clinic

The Kids Fishing Clinic is back again in 2011 to educate and inspire tomorrows fisher-people!

The FREE sessions hosted by 2 Bent Rods are a great hands on way for kids to learn the basics of fishing.

Sessions will be run on a rotational basis with groups starting every 10-15 minutes, this means everyone gets a turn.  To join a session, simply head over to the kids fishing clinic (full map details will be provided shortly) and register.  Children will then wait in a designated area until it's their groups turn to start.  When it's all over, parents are able to collect their children from the specially designated 'pick-up' zone.

Session Details:

Casting Rods: Using egg beater reels, kids will learn a few trick casts and then get their chance to 'catch' some target balloons with casting plugs.

Cast Netting: Kids will learn to throw a cast net which has been colour coded to help make sure they pick it up the right way. After a few goes, kids will be as good (if not better) than dad!

Plaster Mould Painting: For the younger fisher boys and girls...choose from a selection of plaster moulds to paint. Moulds will be dry enough to take home by the time you have finished the clinic.

Lure Painting: For the older fisher boys and girls. Paint wooden poppers to your liking.

Healthy Waterways Model: Use this interactive model to discover where the rubbish we put on the grounds ends up.

Yabbie Tank: Choose your bait (peas, melon, soap etc) and try your hand at catching a 15cm long yabby! Keep your eyes peeled for the red claw variety!

Yabby Pumping: Learn how to use a yabby pump! Once you have the hang of it you will be able to compete to become the Yabby Pumping Champion!

There will also be saltwater and freshwater tanks on display where kids will learn about the various baits available, how to tell the difference between a male and female crab and size limits of fish species including whiting, bream and flathead.

To finish off the session a Group Safety Talk is conducted.  Covering things like sun damage, sting rays, stone fish and sharks, this is a great way to learn about marine safety. A lucky prize draw is held at the end!

No one leaves empty handed with all participants receiving a sample bag with magazines, fishing information and the prizes they've collected along the way!

Parents don't miss out either!  Make sure you check the vouchers table when you drop the kids off and go get yourself a show bargain while the kids are keeping busy!

Matt Watson

This risk-taking adventurer knows no boundaries. He has hunted for big game fish with nothing but the flimsy protection of a jet ski or a surfboard. He has even leapt out of a helicopter to wrestle a marlin! Part stuntman, part conservationist, Matt pulls off impossible catches - unbelievably big fish from ridiculously small boats.

Matt’s daring has captured the imagination of a whole new generation by bringing his special brand of excitement to our television screens as he travels the world’s oceans looking for adventure. His new show, The Ultimate Fishing Show, is set to air on the Discovery Channel’s Turbo Max in April this year. It hasn’t always been this way. Matt was raised in the small seaside town of Weymouth, New Zealand, where no one would have guessed that the cheeky, skinny kid around town would one day step onto the world stage, featuring on The Late Show With David Letterman, The Today Show, 60 minutes, NBC News and BBC World to name just a few.

Originally a roof tiler, Matt suffered an excruciating and embarrassing injury one day. While trying to stem the flow of blood, he received a call from a mate about catching Marlin that resulted in an epiphany. Watson sold his business and his house and took his wife, Kaylene, to the Far North of New Zealand to chase his dream of crewing on a top game boat. Since then he’s crewed on two of the top game boats in New Zealand, launched a successful television career, travelled the world in pursuit of fish and broken new ground for the sport of fishing.

Matt began to write about his game fishing experiences for New Zealand Fishing News in 2001. He also writes for Fishing Monthly Group magazines including Queensland Fishing Monthly.

The offer includes 12 issues of QFM delivered to your postal address plus an Alvey wading bag, a fantastic Rob Gaden designed Warlock lure, a spool of Schneider fishing line and a packet of the revolutionary Klik Sinkers.

All of this is valued at over $125 making this one of the best subscription deals we have offered for years. But get in quick because this offer is only available at the 2011 Brisbane Tinnie and Tackle Show.

If you are keen on a 2 year subscription, we will have limited numbers of two year subscriptions for $115, which will include all of the above bonuses plus an Abu Garcia reel. This 2 year subscription deal is strictly limited to the number of reels remaining.
