Jack Attack Teams Tournament
  |  First Published: December 2004

Most of the details have been confirmed for the first Jack Attack Teams Tournament to be held on the Gold Coast on December 12.

Teams will consist of two anglers, who will be able to bring their best two live mangrove jack to the weighmaster. The minimum size limit will be 35cm to the fork for mangrove jack and 25cm to the fork for the rogue bream. Undersize fish will not be weighed and all fish will be measured on an Alvey fish ruler. Anglers will be able to cast and retrieve lures or troll, and organisers are encouraging anglers to use barbless hooks and heavy lines. To meet this goal, Gold Coast Fishing Tackle, in conjunction with the Freetime Group, is offering each competitor a pre-tournament spool fill for any small to medium sized baitcaster or threadline of 30lb Tuff Line braid. This offer will be in place before the tournament and anglers fishing the event can simply pop in with their voucher and claim a free spool-up.

Competitors will also receive a tournament bag which will include products from tournament sponsors Gold Coast Fishing Tackle (with Owner hooks and Freetime Group), Daiwa, Prawnstar and TT Lures. The bags will include Owner hooks to beef up your trebles, some Prawnstar lures for chasing jacks, a fish-measuring ruler from Alvey, a sample pack of TT Lures Tournament jigheads, a bottle of Ultrabite spray for spicing up your lures and plastics, and plenty of good information from tournament sponsors.

Entry fees are $220 per team, with pre-registration essential to ensure organisers can accommodate the field at the weigh-in lunch at Couran Cove Island Resort. The start area will be along the beach behind the swimming pool located on the Gold Coast Highway, and the start time will be 4am. The weigh-in will be held at Couran Cove Island Resort at 11am before lunch. There is provision for extra lunch packages for partners and family at the rate of $40 per person, but organisers will need to confirm numbers at least one week before the competition.

Anglers will be fishing for cash prizes, with the winners prizes being beefed up by the addition of two Daiwa reels suitable for jack fishing. Every competitor who doesn’t catch a fish will be awarded a special Donut Award to maintain a bit of fun. There’ll also be a rogue species prize for the biggest bream, but competitors are only permitted to weigh in one bream per team.

The prize schedule will be:
