10th Annual Flathead Classic
  |  First Published: September 2003

THE GOLD Coast Flathead Classic is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. This three-day event, organised by the Gold Coast Sportfishing Club, was established to gather data on the marine ecosystem and promote catch-and-release fishing.

This year tagging will not be necessary as the information gathered over previous years has monitored marine activity and patterns extensively. The main thrust will be to stress the importance of catch-and-release fishing and the fun activities that are open to the public throughout the event.

The Classic is set to get off to a racing start on Wednesday September 24 with all teams having to register. Actual fishing commences on Thursday September 25 and continues through to 12pm on Saturday September 27. Session times are between 7am and 4pm on Thursday and Friday and 7am to 12pm on Saturday. Presentation will be at 2:30pm on Saturday.

Each evening progress scores will be posted and an anglers’ draw will be held, plus a mystery time and length competition will give anglers the chance to win some fantastic prizes.

The event will be held at Apex Park, a new venue that fronts the Southport Broadwater, and appearances will be made by a number of high profile fishing identities. All breakfast and evening meals (Wednesday through to Friday) and lunch on Saturday are included in the price of $140 for seniors and $75 for juniors.
