Burnett Family Fishing Classic
  |  First Published: September 2003

THE BLUE Water Sports Club’s Burnett Family Fishing Classic was held on June 28 and 29 with some outstanding fish weighted in. More than 270 entrants competed for a multitude of prizes in Junior and Senior categories. The event featured close to equal numbers fishing the live (catch and release) and dead categories.

The Prawnstar was the standout lure in the live fish category, with a large percentage of the fish weighed in and released being caught on this crafty Australian prawn lure. Local angler Mick Bland fished with the Original Prawnstar to take out the Largest Live Bream category. From his first cast on the water, Mick fished the Prawnstar for several great flathead before capturing a 45cm, 0.95kg bream around some underwater structure to take out the Bream category. Mick took out the $600 major prize, The Paul’s Panel and Paint voucher.

Matt from Salty’s tackle store in Bundaberg and Geoff Beyer from the Port Marina live baited some large bluefin tuna to 15kg.

There was also a host of lucky draws, with the majority of junior and senior anglers taking home a prize. - Tim Mulhall
