Billfish Bonanza
  |  First Published: July 2004

THE MOOLOOLABA GFC Billfish Bonanza, held on the Anzac Day weekend, was blessed with perfect fishing conditions on Saturday and Sunday.

Twenty-three teams competed for a total of 76 strikes. These 76 strikes translated into 58 hookups, but only 11 fish were tagged and released and one was captured. The Bonanza is a little different from most gamefish tournaments, with lucky draws and raffles being included so every angler can have a chance at taking home some of the great prizes. Prizes this year included a silk painting of a sailfish, custom-made lures, eskies and 44 lucky draw prizes.

The Tournament Champion was David Trask and the Champion Club was the Mooloolaba Game Fishing Club. Chelsea Heaney won Champion Junior and David Trask took out Champion Heavy Tackle. Debbie Dahl took out the honours in the Light Tackle Female division, and the corresponding male division was won by Channon Arbuthnot.
