2003 ABA Bass Classic
  |  First Published: July 2003

AFTER fishing fly to accumulate his points, Don Rush secured his first victory at the recent ABA Clarrie Hall Classic. Taking out the champion team was Team EcoGear, consisting of Gary Prerost and Simon Goldsmith.

Fishing the popular deep fly technique, which has become a tournament winning tactic for many anglers, Rush scored 91 points for his 15 scoring fish, eclipsing 2002 winner George Voysey (85 points) and Gary Prerost (85 points).

Team EcoGear members Prerost and Goldsmith concentrated their efforts in the middle reaches of the dam for both days, fishing newly flooded timbered points and weed fringed gullies, with 1/4oz jighead rigged Ecogear Grass Minnows and River2Sea Bubble 45s. On the Sunday the pair down graded to 1/8oz jigheads and the utilisation of Power Up Capsules combined with a slower and more finesse style retrieve helped in tempting lure shy fish, and catching those all important second day fish. – ABA.
