In my August report I mentioned The Farm reefs off Swansea and since then they have been firing on all cylinders, with many local fishos bagging out on snapper and kingfish.
Methods included the standard paternoster bottom rig with around 600g of lead for the snapper and 200g to 300g metal jigs for the kings. There’s usually great fishing in these locations at this time of year.
It’s supposedly too early in the season for the flatties but I can’t ignore the reports of some great catches of big flathead in Lake Macquarie of late.
The fish have been falling to both baits and soft plastics. Some of these fish have been up to 4kg and very lean, which means that they are spawning or looking for ‘partners’ to become friendly with.
Trolling around the edges of the lake in three to five metres of water has been very effective and also provides a mixed bag with small snapper and bream mixed in. The Mann’s Stretch 10+ in Grey Ghost and Scarlet O’Hara colours have been deadly.
