2007 Cod Classic
  |  First Published: November 2007

The 2007 Yamaha Cod Classic is Australia’s richest freshwater fishing tournament and the most eagerly anticipated fishing and social event of the year. With over $100,000+ of prizes on offer, including six boat packages of boat, motor, sounder and trailer, you would be crazy to miss this great weekend in Yarrawonga/Mulwala and the chance to ‘catch-a-legend’.

Organisation is well underway for the event, with the guarantee of a great weekend for all those who participate. The Classic will be held on December 1–2 and will see Lake Mulwala and the Murray River come alive with an estimated 1300 boats and 2800 competitors taking part.

It is a total catch and release event for all native species. Designed to cater for all levels of fishing skill, anglers can use either bait or lure. Everybody has the same chance of winning one of the many great prizes on offer.

The prizes are drawn from a barrel regardless of the size/length of your fish, giving everyone who catches a fish an equal chance. The amazing boat packages will be given away in each of the six divisions; Major Lucky Door prize, Raffle prize, Murray Cod Mystery Draw, European Carp Mystery Draw, Early-bird entrant (paid up before 16 Nov 2007), and the Second Major Lucky Door prize (including juniors).

All the popular features from last year will be there again, including Flathead Fred for the juniors, David ‘The Barefoot Fisherman’ Hodge’s casting clinics, the ‘Cod Gods’ doing their catch and release big fish handling clinics, trade displays and the Mulwala Water Ski Club Pro and Amateur Casting Championships.

All festivities will take place under the massive 100m long marquee set up on the Mulwala Football Ground. The club will also be able to utilize their newly opened clubrooms for the event. All lucky door prizes will be presented on the Saturday night only, and the fishing section is to be presented on the Sunday.

The event has numerous great sponsors and more coming on board daily. There will be over 1500 prizes for the adults and ever junior will receive a prize. These include boat packages, sounders, interstate fishing trips, holidays, fishing gear, camping equipment and clothing just to name a few.

Entry for the competition will be adults $75 and juniors $25. The entry fee includes four meals, souvenir stubby holder, measuring sticker, one free ticket in the major raffle, a Bassman Spinnerbait (juniors only), entry into thousands of lucky door prize draws and the promise of a great weekend.
