Tackleworld Mackay are the major sponsor of Mackay’s 2007 World Sooty Championship.

With a major prize of $1000 of Tackleworld vouchers out of a prize pool of $3000, the event is sure to attract anglers from far and wide.

Run by Mackay Area Fish Stocking Association, the event will be conducted along similar lines to the ABT series. ABT have agreed to be a joint sponsor and hopefully this will become an annual event on the tournament calendar.

The Tackleworld tournament will be held at Eungella Dam in May on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20. There will be two sessions, one late afternoon and the other early morning to give anglers the best chance of scoring some of Eungella Dam’s legendary sooties.

Scoring will be conducted on a length basis and only fly or lure casting will be allowed in the event. Bait fishing and berley is prohibited.

Tournament director Keith Day said, “With the recent rains the dam is at about 50% capacity and the 6 knot speed limit has been lifted. This will let us run the event on similar lines to the inaugural one, with anglers bringing their catches back to a central point for scoring.”

“The event will be a great opportunity for locals and visitors to see Eungella at its best with well grassed camping sites, plenty of water and the thrill of experiencing world class fishing,” Tackleworld Mackay proprietor Neil Elsworthy commented.
