Salmon in thin supply
  |  First Published: August 2015

It’s been a bit quiet on the salmon front this month, with a few nice sized ones getting caught, but hopefully there’s more on the way.

We have had great conditions over June and July, maybe too good for the salmon, as they don’t mind the ordinary weather. A few anglers have managed a couple of salmon recently and some good sized ones at that. Loch Sport seems to be fishing pretty well, and anglers are catching a few salmon to 2kg and a few smaller 0.5kg models as well, it just seems there’s no clues as to when you are likely to catch one. They have been inconsistent and hard to predict, so it’s just been the luck of the draw to see where they are.

Golden Beach has produced a few salmon, similar to Loch Sport and on the better days there’s been the odd one caught at McGaurans beach as well. You just have to head down there and try your luck. Blue bait has been the best bait to use, and a few fish have been caught on surf poppers as well.
