Seventy-eight anglers made their way to Maroon on Sunday 20 Feb after the green light was given for the first Queensland BASS Electric event of 2011.
Mark Petersen took out the event in style using a spinnerbait, while Aaron Mogg came runner up using Megabass Dog X Jnr topwaters and Atomic Semi Hardz lures. Paul Phillips took out the big bass with his only fish of 845g. Twenty-three anglers chose to option up giving themselves a shot at some extra cash for those lucky enough to finish high up the leader board.
Petersen used a Strudwick 1-3kg rod matched to a Shimano Stradic 2000 spooled with 8lb Fins braid and 8lb Yamatoyo leader. Heading straight across the dam to the bay where the cabins are located, he worked a 200m stretch of weed edge throwing a 1/4oz Tiemco spinnerbait.
"I had 8 legals by 8.30am and three upgrades, the bass either came from behind the weed or the front drop-off," he said.
A big thank you to Dan Molloy and his partner for running their first BASS Electric in Sunday's heat. The next BASS Electric is at Clarrie Hall on March 6. Call ABT on 07 3387 0888 for further information. – ABT
