Cressbrook Calm
  |  First Published: October 2010

A chilly and foggy, but very calm, morning greeted the 46 anglers for the second 2010 Cressbrook Electric.

After the start siren sounded, the competitors motored away to their selected fishing spots. The main basin attracted the majority of anglers and it was John Schwerin who was to reign supreme for the day.

John headed straight to the flats in the main basin where fish had been caught over the past month. John had his bag of two bass in the live well inside the first 30 minutes and presented two healthy bass for a total weight of 1.13kg to take out this round.

John was sitting in 20-25ft of water and using a G Loomis rod matched to a Daiwa Steez. He dropped his 1/2oz Little Max blade to the bottom and found that using little hops of the blade was enough to catch his fish.

Coming in second place was Jason Lyons who presented a very respectable 1.12kg bass. Jason also took out the big bass prize. Jason fished the flats in about 20ft of water and had his one and only bass in the well after only about 15 minutes. Unfortunately Jason was unable to land a second bass for the session.

Using a 7’ Daiwa D Redback rod matched to a Daiwa Excellor reel, Jason would drop his Sonic Boom blade to the bottom and vertical jig the lure. – ABT
