What a great few days on the bay weather perfect a few fish around and the best part was there were lots of whales in the bay .sometimes fishing takes a backword step when the whales are in so close.fishing was good lots of nive big flathead in the creek at lota and some nice simmer whiting as well but uabbies are the go for the whiting and small pillies or herrings are best for flathead incoming tide is best.
a few nice schoolies caught all over the bay from the entrance of the rous to wello and ormiston and even a couple in the dropp off at amity banks ,
the whiting are moving into the rous and towards the cj=hain banks not many at al at fishermans anynore,
crabs are plentyful and a few size squire but not the greatest week for them and keep an eye out on the kids swimming in the bay there are thousands of bluebottles floating inside the bay with the notherlies..but this weeks photos are the whales ..

September 29th 2026
A few good days for the school holidays with plenty of whiting in the fishermans gutter amity banks and top of the rous and still some nice fish close in north of darcy light and tingalpa creek producing nice size summer whiting with big flathead and bream, and a little bird told me a few prawns showing up in the creek as well.
The school mackerel are all over the place anywhere on the easdtern side from ormiston all the way to st helena but not in big numbers its the time of the year for them to be close in and around hope banks when the whales and calves come into the bay and they are starting to show up more and more this beeing the best time of year to see them,
Good snapper and squire with some nice sweetlip showing up on the shallow reefs, but looks like a short season again for the cuttlefish and arrows with the appearence of those horrible extra large sea toads lots of expensive squid jigs were lost to these horrible creatures.
Lots of crabs showing up from ormiston all the way to st helena so a pot would be a great idea ..a few good days coming up but the water will be churned up badly with the last fr=ew days of 20 plus knots of south easterly ,but will be nice to be out on the bay.

September 15 th 2026
Some nice days on the bay and the whiting are still in good numbers at fishermans gutter but plenty also if you just want a feed in close around the banks at darcy light and north towards the port. The school mackerel have shown up east of st helena which from my records is not a normal place to be but they are there ,they were in the rainbow last week but seem to have gone lots of small ones around hyubers and green but no big ones in that area ,east of st helena is where they are at about an hour into the run in tide.
Lots of sand crabs in the bay but some a soft shell and empty especially the ones at st helena , but plenty close in.
Tried for cuttlefish and arrows but the trawlers have taken there toll and the water was brown ,never mind with the heat starting it might be the last of them ,hopefully not yet.,squire were hard to get with monster sea toads close in the bay islands but just have to keep trying .weather looks like going to poo poo next few days ..till next week good fishing spero

September 5th 2026
Its been too long for a report as we have now moved from our home of 50 years to our new retirement village ..and it feels pretty good .only downer is boat is now at mbtbc and not t home ,but pretty sure i will get use to it. the weather has turned on beautifully with some glorious days ,the whiting have now left the blue hole but still sticking around fishermans gutter a (friend sent me a picture when they bagged out) and now amity banks as well ,i went out for the first time in 3 weeks and got 38 nice fish just north of darcy light ,so happy days, the school mackerel are showing up around the eastern side of st helena and the bay beacons the water is shocking but does not seem to bother them ,crabs are in excellent numbers and the squire are also in good numbers around the bay shallows reefs and artificial reefs .so onwards and upwards its a great month for fishing , hope this extra warm weather gets the spotties into the bay early ,just hoping ,,good fishing spero

August 10th 2026
Some fantastic days on the water plenty of whiting in close north of darcy on the banks lots at the blue hole at the sandhills and lots in fishermans gutter so a feed of whiting should not be a problem i will say it again good run in the tide is needed .
Mackerel have been very quite with the big tides but this week on they should start showing up from amity banks naval banks and ormiston and wello just need to wait .
Snapper season reopens in a few days so not long to wait.plenty of flathead close in at wynum and the mouth of tingalpa creek on herrings or small pillies drifting at the top of the tide .cuttle fish and arrows are still around but hard work good thing dont need lots for a feed.
i will be of line for a few weeks as we are moving house but you can see updated reports on my facebook page . spero kartanos .. good fishing till then.

July 30th 2026
A little cold but the fishing has been very good.plenty of sandcrabs in the bay and i was lucky to get given a nice feed from my friend mark who cleaned up east side of st helena.
the whiting are in big numbers in the blue hole at moreton with lots of fish beeing caught was taken out this week but sud and john and the close enough bagged out in a couple of hours about 10 boats all catching one after another ,fishermans is still fishing well but definately need run in the tide.
For the first time i decided to take my little boat into tingalpa creek to actually fish for flathead as in my 50 years fishing in moreton bay they are always a by catch ,and i have to say it was great fun the scenery is fantastic dead calm and i managed 4 nice flathead very happy with myself as i get older and older starting to enjoy the more peaceful fishing shallow and calm warterways provide.

July 24th 2026
Finally some glassy days on the bay and the fishing was very good ,the whiting are in plentiful supply from north of the darcy light but you have to work for them slowed down a little towards port a net boat was working this week no big deal they slow down a little for a few days ,but fishermans gutter and the blue hole at the sandhills are firing big time with folks bagging out every day again need run in the tide for the best bite squid strips working well at both spots .
Yje cuttlefish were in good number east of wellington point and ormiston and all the way north of green and st helena a few arrows mixed in with them as well.
The school mackerel have gone a little quite after the big blow it wont be long for them to resurface again. the worst is have not seen a tailor in the bay and hardly any bait but pretty sure with this cold snap they will show up.and great to see the pelicans waiying for a treat when we come back from fishing.

July 15th 2026
Some nice days on the bay but bloody cold for the old man but the whiting are in close north of darcy and lots in fishermans gutter ( the 5 guys in the boat that bagged out two days in a row i assume they have big families ) a thousand fillets mmmm maybe reduction in catching numbers per boat might be an idea .
The mackerel are all over the bay with plenty of small ones to get past to get a few good ones i take the barb of when there are lots of little ones it helps that way to release much easier, rainbow channel and north of lazarette and around navel banks and wide of ormiston are the areas to look at.
Cuttlefish had moved in much closer this week with the big tides 22 to 23 ft was the go.
and remmeber snapper season closed till 15 th of august .
and again please small boat owners be careful with these westerly winds it gets very rough coming back into the wind ,better to pospone then drown.

July 4th 2026
Some nice days on the bay the winds finally abated and lots of families with school holidays got out for a fish,
the whiting are in good numbers from thr darcy light all the way to the port western side of st helena and also in good numbers in fishermans gutter banana banks as well.
the school mackerel are beter on the eastern side but few are showing up around the south eatern side of hope banks and out from ormiston and wello towards the navel banks
squid and cuttlefish alos in tht area 25 to 30 ft depth closer in lots of fisherman are losing lots of expensive squid jigs to the plauge of green sea toads.
squire and snapper are still in good numbers so overall a very good week in the bay.

June 19th 2026
Good few days out and the fish are closer in so not far to go ,whiting are in excellent numbers along the drop of and in the shallows at high tide from darcy light all the way to the port again i stress take with you 2 or 3 different baits as they are biting on different baits on different days even in the tide run all worms for an hour or two as soon as the tide started flying prawns and yabbies ,the cuttlefish and arrows are east of king and wello and the snapper and squire are on the chew along from ormiston to wello green island and st helena and mud i found them at green this week found they loved yellow tail pike this time again half fish and a 6.0 hook thru the head just like whiting heads. the school mackerel are getting closer and been caught south eastern side of hope banks towards naval reserve banks.and looks like the weather is settling so some good fishing coming up.ps.if you are a diver plenty of crayfish in the bay islands .

June 16th 2026
Well the weather has not been fantastic till last sunday and the old man has been pretty sick so could not update much without verification as i only believe hesay with photos attached haha.
Whiting is very good numbers in close from south east of darcy light to the western side of st helena plenty of pike to catch as well and flathead and flounder and bannana banks has good quality whiting as well i would suggest taking a few different baits as one day they prefer yabbies or prawns and other day only take worms .good drift is best and a few tailor lurking as well.
The school mackerel are in good numbers in rainbow channel all the way to small ships channel and the basin northern side of lazzarete gutter tailor as well mixed in and a couple of spaniards swimming around amity ,have not seen much on the western side of the bay as we speak’.
Weatherbhas not been good to fish for squire or snapper but this week looks like might have a window to do so especially with the cuttlefish and arrow squid beeing in the bay over the last 4 weeks and getting better .dont forget nto carry 30 second cleaner from bunning on board cleans up ink in seconds.

June 4th 2026
The weather gods are not playing well at all the winds are howling again and no chance of getting out in a small boat ,so we have been going up tingalapa creek out of the wind just to wet a rod and i have to say it has been fun ,apart from getting yabbies falling in the mud at 7 am on a 11 degree day is not great for the old man,,any way managed a few nice summer whiting and a couple of big bream so worth the effort, i did get one day out infront of wynum out of the westerly winds for a nice bucket of whiting ,so lets hope the weather improves, have to mention water tower bait and tackle have in stainless steel 02 whiting hooks and if you are like me and sick and tired of the red and kinked whiting hooks that rust after one use then get a packet of these very cheap,i have been using them for about threee weeks and no rust .ps lots of mudcrabs in tingalpa creek as well up near the railway bridge.

May 27th 2026
Hooray managed to get out a couple of days as the wind eased and all you had to do was dodge the heavy showers if you were lucky ,a good feed of whiting in close especially good with the tide run and wind in same direction only one thing was so odd not one fish on yabbies or prawns all on worms yet before the rain all fish on prawns and yabbies so it pays to take out a mixture of baits .interesting how 99 percent of fish out in the bay are winter whiting and yet all the fish in tingalpa creek are summer whiting ,any way as promised the photos of the boys with the monster whiting my good friend shane and his son kade in the creek and a bucket i got south west of darcy light ,looks like no wind but buckets of rain coming so another period of tackle and boat maintance,

May 23 rd 2026
Well what can i say the weather gods are not playing fair at all apart from the rain we have the winds as well i think its one of the longest periods i have gone without fishing some brave souls have sneaked out for an hour or two in the close in creeks and rivers and close into the western side of the bay,,tingalpa creek has some very large summer whiting 40 cm plus not in great numbers but at that size a couple of fish is all you need at night and on live yabbies, will post photos next report ,the good b=news when we can get out is the arrow squid and cuttlefish are in wide of green 23 to 26 ft depth and in the last few days after the rain the big muddies have surfeced in the ct=reeks and rivers,it looks like a few ok days coming up so hopefully we can get out for a fish. beautiful photo of ethan and levi.and they told me i was getting one very happy

May 8th 2026
the weather finally calmed down and as i write this today bloody freezing as well so cuttlefish should start soon and schoolies and tailor on the western side of the bay as well if history repeats which it tends to do like the past 50 years .
the whiting are pretty good at the bannana banks but you need good tide run and best last two hours of the incoming ,the tiger squid in really good numbers at amity ,top of rous browns gutter .
and some good reef fish in the shallows around green and wello drop off just trying to get wind and tide same direction is the hard part but managed a few nice fish this week and the whiting are showing up close in to darcy light but hard work not in any great numbers yet but good size fish.

April 24th 2026
well what can i say the weather gods are not playing fair at all and it looks like its not getting any better any time soon,so its time to get ready for the octopod season of cuttlefish and arrow squid ,and hope the tigers stay around for a little more time.
cuttlefish and arrows are normally are in deeper water in the coming months 23 to 40 ft east of ormiston all the way down to mud with the eastern side of wellington point and green island being the best areas ,they are are a strange creature as most times they grab the squid jig from the middle rather then the back as squid do so you will drop many more as you get them close to the boat,so bringing them slowly to the boat and a long net works well as do the razorback squid jigs that have prongs on the back which sometimes work extrelly well and sometimes not at all .just have to try different colours and jigs .
i use ultra light rods and 1000 reels with 10 to 12 lb line and a ball sinker on the squid jigs and only use 3.5 nothing smaller all the way to the bottom and bring it up a foot or two from the bottom a slow jig works well .
a tip to keep youre boat clean i use a stainles steel large pot with a lid to put them in as you can clean really easy and the 30 second cleaner from bunnings works a treat to get rid of any ink stains on youre boat .

so prepare youre rods (you dont need million dollar rods for cuttlefish or squid ) just light and soft tip like 5 to 6 ft whiting rods are ideal . ball sinkers and a variety of squid jigs and you to can get inked..good fishing spero

April 17th 2026
The weather gods smiled at us in the past few days and managed a few days fishing ,crabs are in big numbers with people bagging out from in front of wynum towards the port to the eastern side of green and st helena and deeper around the hope banks ,the whiting are thick at banana banks and a few in the rous on the maroon bank side and amity banks a few close in north of darcy but hard work they are not in any numbers close in yet,the squire and sweetlip are ok but not brilliant in the last few days and there are still schoolies around hope banks but seem to have left the rous i would suggest the rainbow and one mile this time of year, there are a few spaniards around amity as well.
the tigers are in good numbers around green and wellington point jetty and better in the shallows 4 to 5 foot depth ,so plenty of fun to have if you can get out into the bay, good fishing spero.

April 8th 2026
Finally a not to bad day whater pretty clean but had a little troll no schoolies to be found, but had lots of fun with plenty of tiger squid around the eastern side of green ranging from 4 foot depth to 9 foot big and small .whitting have gone from chain banks but plenty at banana banks amity and rous channel.

April 3rd 2026 (easter friday)
Sometimes as an old fisherman driving along the forshore at manly/lota you see things that put the biggest smile on youre face, saw a young man towing his tinny on the back of his pushbike so i had to take a photo and then relised he was meeting up with his mates also who had towed their tinny to meet up at the little ramp at lota to go fishing at green on plastics for snapper .i was very impreesed how eager they were on good friday to go fishing ,so i thought i would share with you all.george, callum, zack and olly.i have to say it put a great big smile on my face and brought back so many memories when i was a young boy who loved his fishing ,good on you boys put a smile on an old fishermans face..hope you catch lots.

March 29th 2026
Weather for fishing not to great but my friend seb who loves prawning rang to take me out to tingalpa creek which i have not been on for over 40 years since i fished it with my dad so it brought back lots of great memories.so of we went up to where the marina is and nothing at all where they have been but my friend knows all the spots and around a bend in the river he stops at a 7 mt hole and it is full of prawns ,20 lts in an hour what a day lots of laughs and lots of prawns ,and i do love seeing the net land on top of the prawns lets hope weather improves to get out for a fish and this cold snap will bring on the school mackerel on the bite even better.

March 27th 2026
One good day in a few weeks but the day turned out great ,firstly i have been told and seen plenty of prawns from the saltworks to nudgee to tingalpa creek so if you can throw a net you will be eating prawns(i cant ) on the fishing front the school mackerel are thruout the bay from wide of green island to the eastern side of hope banks and they are a good size ,the sweetlip and squire are around the shallows on all the close in islands and the tiger squid are thick just before the dogleg in the rous and some around green and wellington point ,so now we have to wait again for a decent day.ps afew nice crayfish around as well as my friend tim found.

brp_del_th:null;

March 21st 2026
Long time between drinks weather gods have not been playing fair even days that are suppose to be 10 knots have turned to 15 to 20 knots but i suppose its also good for the fish gives them time to grow .
prawning sound like its full on north side seems to be hit and miss one day thick other day nothing ,creeks and south side seems to be fit=ring at the moment judging by the dodgem boat action around the saltworks and other islands ,have to say i love eating them but the dodgem action is not for me.
the whiting have moved from the chain banks and are east in the rous amity banks and very shortly in the fishermans gutter ,cant wait till they turn up close into wynum,
the school mackerel will start getting better as the weather cools and in closer as the water clears and smaller tides anothe absolute crap year for spotties ,they are just not coming and staying in the bay i have my thoughts why but thats for another day.
mud crabbing i have been tols is going very well in the creeks and,and flathead have been in good numbers as well ,so we have to be patient and wait for the weather to be on our side.on a good note had plenty of time to put together my chrome slugs in single hooks and treblems that have been using for over 35 years and still the best value on the market and i can guarantee you they work a treat,,water tower bait and tackel sell them at a very good price. and are great for any pelagic species.

March 4th 2026
Well i have no idea what happened to the spotties and honestly i give up its bad enough that hardly any are coming into the bay but our smart goverment {who have no idea} have allowed ringnetting in again, nothing else to sayon this.
no to speros fishing report ,good news the school mackerel are in good numbers wide of green and around hope banks were better on the last of outgoing tide but last couple of days caught plenty with incoming ,they were also showing up in the rous in the deep hole betwenn fishermans gutter and maroon gutter entrance,
The whiting are still in good numbers in the chain bank area but water still dirty so have not seen any squid close in or chain banks but plenty in the clean water in the rous before the dogleg and browns gutter,.so till next time good fishing spero ps.some good cathes of prawns as well at nudgee and the creeks.

February 20th 2026
we went out early to catch a few reef fish behind green island and a troll an hour befire full tide for some schoolies and bioth worked well ,but the big tides have put the baitfish down and no action on the water at all and hardly a bait ball down deep at all but we managed a very nice feed, schoolies were hiding on the amity banks drop off from the green at chain banks south.

February 19th 2926
Some more good days in the bay the armegedon predictions did not come to fruition so the water is quite clean compared to what we thought was going to be,the whiting are in excellent numbers at the chain banks the school ,ackerel are thruout the bay and getting closer in and the spotties are in the bay and som nice crabs in the deeper water in the bay towards amity banks only problem not seeing any tiger squid on this side of the bay, well we cant have everything,
Seems worms and peeled prawns are working best for the whiting the schoolies are loving the chrome spoons with or without bling and the spotties are taking the old chrome slugs so its a matter of spending the time finding them ,just hope for a dead calm day to spot them on the surface .

February 11th 2026
The weather imptoved and the fish were waiting ,whiting in big numbers in the chain bank area better with a good drift and the schoolies are around the hope banks with plenty of bait down the water channel showing up and bonito schools as well ,the northern bay has plenty of both as well especially around the channel markers, but the best news was the spotties are in the bay managed some very latge fish yesterday so hopefully they stay around a while not much surface action but they are following the bait balls 10 to 15 foot deep perfect for trolling spoons, hopefully with some dead calm days and sunshine we should see them smashing the surface…so enjoy catching them while they are in the bay, my wife decided to come out for a whiting fish and cleaned up in the little karavaki,,

Febuary 7th 2026
Hooray finally the weather gods started playing fair for smaller boats and out i went all the records over 50 years said whiting in the chain banks mackerel around hope banks and reef fish in the shallows and the tiger squid are in good numbers and spotties in the bay ,well 3 out of 5 aint bad, the whiting are in big numbers at the chain banks ,the schoolies are around the hope banks and the reef fish are around the shallows around green so it was so much fun beeing out in the little boat ,,weather finally seems to have settled and as the water clears after the 50 knot winds and the tides get smaller i expect the tiger squid to improve and hope some spotties come into the bay as there is lots of bait in even the bonito are in,,

January 28th 2026
Did not get a chance to do much fishing with the little boat so far and with the school holiday traffic and the breezy days its a little frustrating but a few frirnds went out with bigger boats and the school mackerel are around and a few broad mackerel are also showing up so when we get a few calm days it will be worthwhile chasing a few around the hope banks.
Had the opputunity to be taken out prwaning yesterday with my friend seb who is an excellent prawining fisherman and did not dissapoint out of the wing in doboy creek he found a spot and we got plenty of good prawns and from stan the expert on prawns brisbane river is producing plenty ,i love srring the prawns on the bottom and seeing the net land on top of them hate the part the net misses by a few feet ,so enloy the photos i have been told by the prawn experts could be a big season, have farn throwing the net i cant so i just drive the boat.. spero

January 17th 2026
Some good news for mackerel fisherman in the bay got a couple of good reports and from people i trust ,school mackerel in good numbers north of harry s spoiled grounds all the way to the beacons and shark spit and the better news a few schools of spotties swimming around as well ,so lets hope the weather holds and you can get out and chase a few ,my friend picked up a few schoolies on my lovely old chrome slugs that still work a treat .and the other good news is the prawns have started so have fun getting some .

January 10th 2026
Been an ok start to the school holidays and after telling a few families where to get some whiting got some nice feed back from Shane Beardmore who took out some children out to the rous just before the dogleg where there have been some nice whiting been caught ,the children evy, mila, jake and max and by the sounds of it when the water started to move some nice whiting were caught and it was max s first fish in moreton bay ,how good is that ,and shane advised me this was in his 55 year old cruiscraft 1971 model how good is that ..so glad i can help and by the look of the smiles great day had by all..so when the weather improves again whiting all thru the rous and chain and amity banks.,som action starting on the surface in between the bonito schools so could be some spotties in the bay worth a look ,but if you are after some schoolies the beacons are holding plenty in the shipping channels ..

January 1st 2026
Happy new year and a healthy and happy one with plenty of good weather and good fishing.as most of you know i don t have the big boat anymore so dont get out as much or where i would like to fish but have a strong list of really good mates and damn good fisherman that keep me up to date with weekly and daily reports and i still go out when the weather is good with my little wooden karavaki .but one thing to be sure i dont take reports from other magazines or writers to pass on ,all reports here will honest and truthful and will pass on exactly where the fish are and being caught same as i have done the last 50 plus years of my life .
the whiting are thick in the small boat entrance on the chain bank side and the same at amity banks eastern side of the maroon gutter and the maroon banks side in the rous channel peeled prawns and worms working best.and tiger squid in the same areas.
the school mackerel are not in great numbers but are showing up around hope banks and south towards peel ,i have heard a few schools of spotty mackerel west of sand hills and spotted the ring netting boats going that way have not seen pictures but maybe worth a run on a nice flat day water temp is perfect for them at the moment,
Some nice Flathead and squire caught around the bay islands in the last day or two green and wellington point the prawns are also starting to show up in the creeks and the mud crabs are in good numbers as well so plenty to chase as long as weather does the right thing by us..good fishing spero

December 30th 2025
When nearly over hope all had a great Xmas and a few more rods and reels were added to the collection ,weather not great for a while but the rivers and estuary’s have had lots of mud crabs in them with all chasing them getting plenty even some spare for the old man .thank you mark ,the whiting were in good numbers in the rous small boat channel and maroon and amity banks with tiger squid in the same area and i took my little boat out to green to see if the tigers have come in close in yet and was surprised the water colour and a few tigers were there, lets hope the winds abate and its a great fishing start to 2026 happy new year to all our readers ,see you in the new year spero

December 21 st 2025
Nearly the end of year and weather has not been to good for us but managed a few days out for some whiting which were in good nymbers in the small boat channel along the chain banks and further up in the rous on maroon banks side also some nice tiger squid in the same areas, the snot weed was terrible at amith banks but some nice fish when you got away from the weed, also just before the dog leg in the rous had plenty of whiting and squid, the schoolies are showing up around hope banks but most are under size and have not had any reports about spotties yet if they are going to come in water temp is perfect ar=t the moment,,any way any fresh feed is good so i will be out as soon as the weather is good again ,,,merry xmas to you all and a happy and healthy new year and good fishing to you all..spero

December 5th 2025
Nearly xmas and like clockwork the whiting have been in the chain bank areas for a few weeks and the amity banks are starting to fire as well followed by big and small tiger squid as well,so fresh calamari and whiting fillets on the menu for December ,the few good days after the storms produced some nice squire as well mud island worked a treat for some as did the artificial reefs, the school mackerel have gone quite but the colour of the water has not helped ,lets hope my next report mentions some spotties coming in the bay the big females normally come in this time of year,my concern is the water in the bay does not heat up too much, lets hope its a good year for them, one point dont abuse the ring netters if you see them government have opened up ring netting again .

November 20th 2025
Finally the weather improved and all boats were out catching something fresh to eat, plenty of whiting in the small boat passage on both sides chain banks and across to the banks need good run in tide ,the snapper and squire are in good supply in all the bay islands and a few odd fish being caught as well like a sand bass which i have never seen or caught before in the bay.big leopard sharks which are very rare and crabs are a plenty, so plenty out there except schoolies big tides and filthy water does not help next week will be the go i hope.

November the 6th 2025
Finally weather turned great and it was time to see if the whiting had moved into the small boat passage and along the chain banks as history predicted and happy to say history does repeat itself.,my friend seb and i got plenty of them ,tide against wind but plenty of fish in the area drifting they were happy with worm baits anchored up peeled prawns so have both on hand in the area .and the crab season is really firing up with lots of crabs in the bay but please don”t put you’re pots in the channels or on top of the pro pots plenty of crabs for all

October 31st 2025
Rain storms and everything in between horrible storms to frighten everybody ,interesting the water in close has become so clear and the schoolies are moving back in ,and the squire and sweetlip have started as well a couple of good morning to catch a feed but it was so steamy and hot had to come home by 10 am,hopefully we get over these storms and next week is looking a little better.and by the way sand crabs are everywhere.

October 22 nd 2025
Funny old week winds are up with a few ok mornings but water is dirty close in and big tides have moved the mackerel out to the rous channel and the whiting have also moved from in close to the rous channel and banana banks at the moment so worth a travel out to the cleaner water while these northerly winds are on..still a few squire around close but the dirty water has brought on the sharks, green sea toads and cat fish not much fun at all…on the crab front everyone who has been putting pots out are getting plenty from close in to deep water it does not seem to matter.

October the 12th 2025
spero kartanos report
Not much fishing in the bay in the last week apart from lots of crabbing in close early morning and then home trying to beat the 20 knot plus winds that came up every day ,but happy to say a couple of mates dropped in plenty of crabs to me so very appreciative and they bloody taste good.
They are catching them in close north of leads towards the port around green king and st Helena and aquatic paradise in the shallows and even in the creeks so if you put up with the winds there are plenty on offer, lets hope the wind ease over this week so we can get out for a fish.

October the 3rd 2025
spero kartanos report
As reported a few days ago if you can take the kids out into the bay we have lots of whales mum with calves all over.
on the fishing front nice whiting in close to wynum manly towards the port area and some nice Flathead as well tides are not great for school mackerel but if you put the trolling effort in they are there and you will most likely get one or two ,lots of 40 to 45 cm ones at the moment they grow pretty quick so the season should continue with plenty of fish ,now lets hope the spotties come in this year time will tell. plenty of good squire and snapper in the bay so worth a big bait or a plastic over the shallow reefs i don’t do plastics but my whiting and a piece of sancrab are doing the job, crabs are in big numbers all over the bay as well.till next time happy fishing spero

September 30th 2025
I know this is my fishing report page but it was unbelievable seeing all these wales so close in the bay between green island and hyubers light and then a little further east ,and one baby thought my little boat was a toy as he decided to come up and give me a nice shove (pooping time ) glad it was not his mom that was 4 times bigger. if you can get out to see them its worth the trip .

September the 30th 2025
Well what great weather for the last week of the school holidays plenty of school mackerel and plenty of snapper even the visiting victorians got in on the act my friend mark and son jasper brought out Simon and son Spencer and by the look of the smiles a damn good day on the bay and all caught in business hours 8 to 10 am .,that’s why i love moreton bay .whiting were in close as well, so hopefully the weather holds for a few more days .crabs are in good numbers in close my friend mark and little fella Ethan thru a few my way very much appreciated,,so plenty out there for a fresh feed,,till next time spero

September 27th 2025
The wales are now in the bay in great numbers so worth taking the kids out for a look area seems best triangle from green island to hope banks and ormiston and lots north towards tangalooma and sand hills..on the fishing front schoolies have slowed this week with the early morning low tides a few around you need to put in a big effort and a few tailor southern tip of green island .i was told whiting have been quiet in the rous i would try amity banks ,i cant go out that far with the small boat these days but managed a bucket east of Darcy light in a couple of hours.

September 23 rd 2025
Start of school holidays started with some great weather and the fishing for schoolies has been very good ,rainbow channel one mile and close in around ormiston to green has also been productive and a few tailor mixed in as well, strong wind warning for a day or two but looks like calming down again end of week ,plenty of whales in the bay around hope banks as well,we are very lucky to live in a great area of the world.

September 16th 2025
Good news again school mackerel are getting bigger and they are spreading thru out the bay rainbow channel (best last of outgoing tide) but that can change the paddock north of peel and ormiston and wellington point and green and king i would suggest around hope banks and along the amity banks at the two greens will be next, and the whales are in too..and a few nice tailor mixed in as well.
the whiting are in fantastic numbers in the rous but without good run in the tide its like fishing in a bath tub and a few nice fish also at the sand hills closer to home east of Darcy there are some nice fish but not in the thousands.

September 10th 2025
Great week of fishing with plenty of mackerel in close and rainbow channel as well seems the time of the the bite is 6.30 to 8.30 and tide does not seem to matter and a few tailor mixed in,the whiting are in close but not in great numbers some tiny ones but some very large females the area they are thick at is the rous channel where it meets the small boat passage maroon bank side but be careful they are very close to the 2 mt green zone and a few boats the other day were well and truly inside the zone.looks lie a few days of wind so building rod racks and getting all ready for the next day out.

september 6th 2025
getting old forgot to ad ethans photos ..great smile thats what fishing is all about.

September 6th 2025
A week of good fishing weather and plenty of fish in the bay ,the school mackerel are back in the rainbow channel and around the wellington point leads and the whiting are around amity banks and the rous and even close in to east of darcy light ,some nice snapper also beeing caught in the mouth of the brisbane river along the rock wall the squire/ snapper were a little quite this week i struggled to get a couple of 44 cm ones east side of green but things should get better next week, week end weather does not look great ,and only a little improvement next week ,still no whales in any numbers in the bay lets hope they come in soon for a rest.some good stories this week from young ones catching there first schoolies which always puts a smile on my face, and young ethan has the best smile when he olds up a fish till next time good fishing spero

August 30th 2025
A few good days on the bay plenty of schoolies and tailor in close as the rainbow went dead after the big northerly wind overnight a few days back ,but its good that they have arrived in close .Kimberly spoons still working a treat with a little yellow bling on but so are the 3 inch spoons ,they are eating whitebait at the moment but when they change to razor pillies it will be a good time to throw on a smith jig.it was great to get out on my birthday to pick up a few it never gets tied going out for a fish .so hopefully i can still report for a little while yet but at 73 its getting a little harder every year..added a little greek emblem on the boat to avoid the curses ,its a greek thing haha…

August 26th 2025
Well the school mackerel are like clockwork same time as the whales every year, thick at amity and welsby light and they should be all thru the rainbow in the next few weeks as well as the one mile, also in big numbers in front of wello and deeper out where the first trench starts 23 to 28 ft depth and there are some as well east of green ,its just a matter of finding them the best working lure today was the Kimberly spoon with a little reflective tape on ,water tower have them in stock and easy to release the little ones because of the single hook.went out the last few days and today went with my friend seb and he was very happy plenty of fish and big smile.

August 23rd 2025
A few good days with tides perfect for snapper fishing the close in islands like green and st Helena with some nice fish, the school mackerel have shown up in good numbers in the rainbow down to welsby light with plenty of fish being caught the last few days and they wont be long showing up around the hope banks as well.
The only problem i broke one of my all time favorite snapper rods a Berkley cherry wood ,never mind nothing lasts forever.

*** Brought to you by Spero Kartanos ***
August 20th 2025
Not a bad few days on the bay and the weekends have not been bad either the snapper were waiting for everyone since the closure with plenty of nice catches in the bay and outside the bay and seems the Spaniards are also in big numbers,
The whiting are still around the maroon gutter area amity banks maroon hole and rous nothing at the chain banks yet but not bad close in as well with plenty of bog fish east of Darcy light with a few Flathead as well.
The whales have arrived in the bay which also means the school mackerel should move up from the southern bay islands with these northerly winds predicted this week. and there has been lots of big tailor on the surf at north strabroke island.

August 9th 2025
As most of us that wait for the cuttlefish and arrow squid season would now has not been the best with lots of hit and miss days in the usual spots in the bay and yes a dew ok days here and there but nothing like a couple of years ago and before that,so i decided to try and find them as i know the trawlers have been getting plenty while catching prawns.went north of green to the eastern side of st Helena all the way up to the floating red and there were quite a few and some big buggers as well, and for the first time i had a dolphin eating them on the way up and even chasing and eating the ones coming of the line ,but at least they are in good numbers in that area.but did not catch any arrows at all.lucky for cephalopods eaters like me the tigers are still around green island.

August 1st 2025
Not a bad week with a few fish able days ,the whiting are still around the rous channel and maroon hole but only coming on the bite with a good run in the tide and lots caught in front of the small sand hill at Morton as well.and with plenty of roe inside a delicacy for some of us.
The school mackerel are hit and miss with a few being caught all over the place from the mouth of the Brisbane river to the channel markers in the rous gutters towards amity ,it wont be long till the get over to the western side of the bay.
A few tailor around the northern tip of st Helena and around mud island and the mouth of the river.
The cuttlefish season and arrows is nothing to rave about one day a few in the deep another day close in but not in great numbers this will be two seasons in a row of not been good.
The good news is the arrows are still around green island and wellington point and the weed banks in the rous and western side of more ton and a few been caught in the rainbow at amity ,so still plenty to get a feed.
Looking forward to the whales coming in the bay in the next few weeks with September being our best month for them on the way south..happy fishing

July 26th, 2025
Some good days but bloody cold in the mornings and honestly i am getting old but don’t remember south westerly winds every single morning for weeks upon weeks ,must be my age.
The whiting are in good supply in close when the snot weed is not too bad but lots in the maroon hole ,rous channel up from the red with a few mackerel and tailor in the channels running of the rous towards amity.
The tailor are around cylinder beach and closer to home Brisbane river and st Helena and mud island especially dawn and dusk in the shallows
Plenty of tiger squid still around but would not say cuttlefish and arrows are in any great numbers at the moment and the school mackerel have not ventured on the western side of the bay yet ,has to be soon.
be careful with the westerlies in the bay and keep safe.and have to mention water tower bait and tackle have found some delta boards and are on there way in my opinion as good as the yamashita boards so maybe ring and place you’re orders at around 30 dollars they are a bargain and would brilliantly i have been using them for a long time.

July 16th 2025
Some beautiful days on the bay with plenty of whiting showing up at maroon hole and amity banks and the rous near the red as well, but you need to get run in the tide for them to come on the bite, the school mackerel vanished very quickly fro rainbow and one mile but the pro net folks got plenty south of peel between the islands it was reported, they should make there way close in soon.
don’t forget snapper season has closed for a month till august the 15 th..but there are plenty of nice big painted crayfish in the bay,and plenty of nice bream now that we cant catch squire.
the cuttlefish and arrows are not in any great numbered but they should be so hoping end of the month will get better,
and please be careful in small boats in the westerlies our drownings have all come in the westerly winds in the past ,better to put of a trip then risk you’re life and you’re passengers life’s.

July 7th 2025
Some nice days for the school holidays with plenty of table fish in the bay ,school mackerel were thick in the rainbow and one mile and turned up in the rous in the last couple of days by end of July august they should get over to the western side closer to home, the whiting have resurfaced in big numbers in the rous channel with many boats bagging out in short time and the snapper and squire are in the artificial reefs but lots of small fish before you can get a decent one, cuttlefish and arrows are slow to what they should be at the moment .

June 27th 2025
Weather still freezing but when you get a few days of calm its worth a trip out into the bay,the school mackerel have shown up in the rainbow channel and the tailor as well in the gutters of the rainbow channel ,the whiting are in the deeper water in the rous channel not on the banks and also wynum foreshores out towards st Helena the tigers are on the eastern side of green island and the cuttlefish and arrows are in much deeper water 32 to 40 ft depth eastern side of wellington point and green i would be trying east of mud as well.so keep warm and hope this cold snap goes away.

June 13th 2025
Talk about freezing ,i unwillingly said yes to going prawning yesterday as my friend who loves it told me there were lots and big down lamb island between the two ferry terminals ,so i dressed like never before with beanie, long pants and two long sleeve jumpers and was still freezing going in that ungodly hour of 6 am .
but at the end it was was fun with lots of big prawns some fun banter with the other 40 boats most good human beings with the exception of a couple of morons .got some great footage of the net landing on big school of prawns which i love to see,and the benefit is they taste so damn good, next week the weather looks settled and good for a few fishing days..keep warm

June 8th 2025
The winds eased and there was plenty of fish whiting the whiting are in good numbers in close to wynum especially north of Darcy light and the big fish are definitely taking yabbies or whole prawns worms are good as well but getting the smaller fish.
The tiger squid are big and aggressive at green north and south in the shallows and the cuttlefish are hit and miss with the arrows but should get much better over the next few weeks.
The prawns have really come on my friend sent thru a photo where the bottom is thick and in one cast got 8 lbs of them and everyone that’s gone south this week all got plenty .and plenty of crayfish in the bay at the moment as well.

May 29th 2025
A few ok days but looks like the rain is returning and not much fun is a small boat when wet, managed a nice day out close in but still blowing 12 knots plus but the whiting are big and in good numbers at Darcy and surrounds and a little north as well in 6 to 7 ft depth ,found the big buggers taking whole prawns compared to the smaller ones on worms only tried whole prawns because a friend told me they were getting some good fish on yabbies and it worked.
A few tailor and good size around western side of green back to the leads and a bonus nice big flounder made it a good day .also a few nice mackerel caught at the spoiled grounds just north of harry s with some nice squire but the sharks are sharing with the catch.
A few days of more work on the little boat while the wet weather hits us.

May 24th 2025
What fantastic weather this week south westerly winds dropping off in the morning to glassy conditions on the bay and a perfect time to go out on my new little boat :karavaki” Greek for little boat and it was fun with plenty of fish and squid and some funny happenings as well, forgot to put bung in,forgot to untie strap and forgot to take tackle box but it was OK not having a trailer boat for 46 years what else would i expect..but martha and i are loving it.
The squid are in excellent numbers close in at green island northern and southern end of the island from 2 to 3 ft at high tide to 5 to 6 ft as the tide drops, nkn yamashita color worked the best by far 3.5 weight.
The whiting are in good number close in from the Darcy light channels all the way to the mouth of the river around the 7 ft mark seems best
and the snapper squire have been on the chew around wellington point with the run out tide, have not been for mackerel and tailor but will be looking for them this week .have to say its great to be back on the water fishing and will be better when i get used to the little boat ,just been out in the bay is what its all about.

May 19th 2025
Weather has been hit and miss with calm days on predicted windy days and the opposite on predicted calm days but that’s weather for you,the good news is the cuttlefish and arrows squid have started in earnest and the tiger squid are in the breeding season judging by the sounds of it in the way they are attacking each other and the squid jigs ,so time to get out there in the shallows for the tigers and the deeper water for the cuttlefish and arrows ,a small sinker on the top of the squid jig is how i catch the cuttlefish and arrows about a foot of the bottom ,with those with little electric motors a very slow motoring trolling a squid jig behind has been catching plenty of tigers, personally i like to cast and retrieve but trolling slowly for them can be fun as well,
The whiting are starting to show up close in which is good for some of us that only have small boats now so worth a drift between Darcy light and the northern tip of st Helena .
The prawning and crab season is really good at the moment and have been told the prawns are moving south and also in big numbers in the Brisbane river.so plenty to go and and catch and pls be careful with the westerlies always catches many of guard out in the bay .

May 5th 2025
The few days that were ok to fish produced some nice fish ,the mackerel are starting to show up closer in even a few getting caught of the rock wall at the entrance of the marina and a few tiger squid also along the fore shore at night at high tide, the whiting have been in the deep water of harry s and the amity banks in 25 to 30 ft depth normal for this time of year before many moving in close in the winter months around the Darcy light and towards the port entrance.
The tiger squid are in good numbers thru out the bay and green is producing plenty and the cuttlefish have started seeing the amount the trawlers are raking up while catching prawns ,not many arrow squid yet .
The reef fishing has been good worth plenty of squire being caught at the artificial reefs in the bay and the bay islands and the crab season seems to be going extremely well looking at all the photos of the sand crabs and mud crabs i have been sent and prawning looks like hit and miss some day bagging out and other days in the same area 2 and 3 per cast.
so cooler weather has arrived should be a very good school mackerel and tailor season and soon my new little boat should be ready for maiden voyage ,i cant wait have not been fishing in the bay fr 6 weeks ,longest ever time without fishing in all my life.see you all out there soon

April 19th 2025
What fantastic weather for Easter break no wind glorious calm days and plenty of fish in the bay, whiting are plentiful at the sand hills and blue hole and plenty of tiger squid as well, the school mackerel are on the chew around the hope banks and peel island on the northern side and some lovely squire being caught at the shallow reefs ,the crabs are in big numbers mud and sandies and the prawning fraternity are getting bucket loads as well.so we cant complain plenty out there but be careful and stay alert there are thousands of boats in the bay so stay safe. and if you are after a special treat my friend michael from new farm sea food is carrying the pilchard fillets which are delicious grilled or pan fried. and for most that read the reports sold my beautiful old boat “westray” and getting my new bon wood putt putt ready for its fishing days in the bay called “KARAVAKI ” greek for small boat ..so the old man will soon be back out in the bay.

April 8th 2025
Some wonderful weather at the moment and the prawners are having a whale of a time north and south the prawns seem to be thick ,my friend Seb took me to the north of brisbane river yesterday and it was unbelievable the screen lit up with prawns and i got a great shot of the net on top of the prawns as Seb was closing the net you can see them going up into the pocket …lots of fun and we bagged out pretty quickly.
A few mackerel around the bay on the south eastern side but you have to watch the hundreds of crab pots in the area ,a mate Stuart picked up a nice one and remember if you are catching spotty mackerel (joke grinners) you have the boards toooooo far back..

April 6th 2025
Weather has not been to bad once the rain stopped again bay is cleaning up nicely apart of some big logs floating around.
the whiting have been hard to find in the southern bay normal areas but plenty at moreton in front of the small sand hill along the the drop off south where all the boats anchor up for the day.
The school mackerel have surfaced again in good numbers along amity banks heading towards peel and a few very large broad mackerel are also in the bay closer towards wellinton point and toward raby bay there were some caught in the rainbow as well.
Prawning has been very good since the rain stopped everyone has been getting them north and south in the last couple of weeks i was taken out yesterday to woody point and it was not a great day with lots of wind and about 40 boats but managed some nice size prawns ,thank heavens i don’t cast i just drive my friends boat and seb does all the heavy lifting of casting the net.
the crabbing sand and mud has been excellent with big catches of sand crabs in the deeper water and plenty of mud crabs in the mouths of creeks .
have not heard much on reef fishing in the bay at the moment but fairly sure there would be plenty on the shallow reefs.
i had a great night speaking on school mackerel on how when and why to catch fishing in the bay to the power boat angler club which i was invited to do by my friend graham bell and it was a lot of fun meeting lots of fisherman that read my reports .

March 23 rd 2025
Happy to say went out this week and it was lots of fun ,have not been out since boat was sold so it was an experience going out in a tinny fast and bouncy and no cover but an old friend took me out so lots of fun.and appreciated the trip very much, whiting have gone of the chew in all the whiting areas since last Sunday ,could be the very small tides or they have moved into the deeper water for a week or so,the school mackerel not in huge numbers but goo for a few around the two greens of amity banks and also the western side of hope banks water is quite good ,plenty of tiger squid in the bay especially in the rous from the chain banks all the way thru to the dogleg and in most weed banks around maroon gutter,
Was told the prawns are thick redlands way as i write this and the crabs are thick on the deeper water east and south east of hope banks with hundreds of pots so when trolling keep you’re eyes open.
The squire and sweet lip have not taken looking to get back on the bite but small sharks are a problem ..couple of nice fish from Shane and tom this week.

March 18th 2025
Hope most survived the cyclone and i for one would be more then happy not to ever see another one ,it was scary stuff being over the top of us in Brisbane and living on the bay side thank heavens for moreton and stradbroke islands are there to take the power out of it,but feel for the folks living on the islands.
The water is not the best but the whiting by all reports are in good numbers in amity banks and the rous channel, have heard nothing on the reef fishing front but some nice broad mackerel in the rainbow channel where the water is much cleaner then further in the bay ,a few years back when we had floods the school and broad mackerel were between stradbroke and moreton and into the rainbow .
The crabbing seems to have taken of big time with the sand crabs in big numbers opposite the lazarette gutter along maroon and amity banks and plenty of mud crabs close in the mouth of most creeks,no news on the prawning in the last week i think there is lots of rubbish still floating out of the rivers..
March 4th 2025
Morning everyone ides of march are upon us who thought cyclone of the top of us ? the prediction is scary and being thru one on a boat in the Whitsundays many moons ago its bloody scary thing to go thru ,so everyone take care and keep as safe as you can ,lets hope we get thru it without any catastrophic destruction.. and we will all get back sooner rather then later back to normality, stay as safe as you can.
February 23rd 2025
Lots of windy days to get ready and wait for the calm, good news is the prawns from all reports are pretty thick everywhere from north to south in all the known spots like tinny creek ,salt works ,cabbage creek and so on ,this all comes from friends that prawn i don’t i just hope they drop me some in.Nd if you get a net full of herring don’t swear and curse excellent snapper bait.
The school mackerel are still around the hope banks south east of the banks and they are starting to show up on the western side before the deep trench before you hit the hope banks, and lots as well just inside the bar between amity and Moreton, and still a few around shark spit.
Whiting are in big numbers at amity banks ,fisherman’s gutter and in the rous against the maroon banks and banana banks has enough for dinner and some really nice size Flathead.
The tiger squid are in good numbers in the rous and chain banks amity banks and fisherman’s as well.so as soon as the wind drops no reason not to get a fresh feed.
The crabs have moved out into the deeper water with plenty about but lots just under size.
just for everyone to know i am no longer with a boat so reports will be second hand and from 46 years of records that i have for the bay,and lots of good friends that are like me and want to help folks catch a fish. So till next time good fishing, spero

February 11th 2025
Some nice weather at the moment and plenty of fish around ,still some good schoolies around a little quieter with the big tides building but enough to get a feed ,best bet is around the hope banks at the moment incoming tide is best, there were even some yesterday west of hope banks .
The whiting are still around the chain banks but the big numbers are in fisherman’s gutter and the rous channel and the tiger squid are in good numbers in the same areas and aggressive so worth a jig behind the boat while whiting fishing or two or three jigs and concentrate on squid fishing, its worth it.

February 8th 2025
Weather has been ok with big tides in the morning not the best for mackerel trolling in the bay but still a few around with the incoming tides ,plenty of nice big sweetlip at green island with the outgoing tide ,just have to be patient and wait for them to come on ,and plenty of whiting in the blue hole and amity banks ,with plenty of squid on the western side of the bay where the water is nice and clean, the western bay water is terrible as trawlers have been working all night between hope banks and green island ..plenty of big mudcrabs around at the moment i managed a giant in the marina the other day.
The spotty mackerel have gone very quiet but reports came in of big schools east of caloundra so hoping they make there way into the bay..good fishing.

February 5th 2025
Managed an overnight trip but Tuesday was no fun at all whitecaps everywhere but lucky the school mackerel were in excellent number south and south east of hope banks bigger fish on the smith jigs but plenty on the single hook halco with gold splash ,green island produced plenty of squire in the 35 to 40 cm range so it was fun to get out of the wind and catch a few catch and release was lots of fun ,the bigger fish were on Wednesday morning on the eastern side..so home before the rain ,week end is looking ok on the weather prediction front so we will wait and see.

February 3rd 2025
Well not much fishing in the last week with howling winds out in the bay unless you are from amity or dunwich or fished and crabbed and prawned in the sheltered waters, for the rest of us its wait and wait till the winds ease ,which if predictions are correct is Tuesday afternoon onward ,water is a terrible color with big winds and big tides so i would be looking at rous channel fisherman’s gutter and amity banks for our whiting fix,and snapper and sweet lip around the bay islands ,mackerel also on the western side of more ton and rainbow channel, squid have been improving on the eastern side of bay and should get better in the coming weeks.crabs are still plentiful and all the prawners are waiting for the starters gun to go off ,seems like lots of talk but no great action yet ,is what i have been told…any way lets see what this week bring hope to go out for a few days and see.
For ll those thinking where has the whiting master gone he is just going thru a pretty terrible time fighting the big C but hoping to have him well soon.thank you to all that have sent messages to ask.

January 21st 2025
a few magic days on the bay in between the strong winds with lots of fish ,the school mackerel have moved from the rous and are more around the hope banks and the basin at peel island the spotties are not ravenous at the moment with small schools of females not really interested in much food they are all over from the hope banks to spoiled grounds and east of mud island lets hope the males come in to get them going in the next week or so.
The whiting are slowing up in the chain banks and lots have moved into the fisherman’s gutter and amity banks still good to get a feed at chain banks but you need tide run ..a few squid in fisherman’s and chain banks as well even a few little arrows mixed in.
some lovely snapper and sweet lip at green and spoiled grounds just need to put the time in as there are many sharks as well.

January 15th 2025
A few great days on the bay weather wise big tides put the school mackerel down a bit in the middle of bay but they congregated in the rous channel in the thousands some small fish but i found fishing away from the bait and sharks were the bigger fish anyway it was lots of fun ,and seeing the young ones getting into them with grins from ear to ear was very satisfying.
The spotties also a little quit hoping the males come into the bay in big numbers soon.
the whiting are around the chain banks shallows at high tide and deeper as tide drops and the tiger squid are also showing up in same area.

January 9th 2025
Beautiful morning till we got belted with storms in the afternoon ,we made back in safe and sound, the school mackerel are in extraordinary numbers in the bay around the hope banks in the rous channel between fisherman’s and entrance to maroon gutter ,and peel island opposite the lazarete..
Went up north today to see where the spotties are and they were east of mud island at the western corner of the green zone, not big schools and definitely not sitting up feeding the small fast boats that put the time in to go hard and get a few casts to a few fish chipping was fruitful with some nice spotties being caught.
Whiting are still at the chain banks and rous channel but you need run in the tide, anyway we had fun catching a few nice mackerel for the day.

January 7th 2025
Great weather for the week and plenty of folks out with the kids catching some whiting and mackerel around the chain banks ,nothing like hearing kids so excited catching a fish and a few tiger squid are showing up in the same area as well, even the mackerel are turning up in the shallows reducing whiting to half their size,a pillie at the back on a float is worth having out.,plenty of whitebait at night western side of green as well and lots at horeshoe bay as well, tasty little critters.
Looks like the big female spotties are resting lets hope in the next week or so the thousands of males come into the bay ,worth looking down south around peel for spotties with ton of bait in the area.

January 3rd 2025
Happy new year to all ,well it was a good year fishing wise plenty of our local fish in the bay whiting, mackerel, squire and snapper ,Flathead the only species not the best this year were the prawns ,and squid and cuttlefish, but cant complain we had fun caught fish and even the whales this year were so much fun in so close..
Well the weather the last week has not been great with big tides and wind against made it very uncomfortable to try and fish the mackerel went down with these big tides as usual but the whiting were in great numbers at amity banks ,banana banks maroon gutter and chain banks and nice size fish as well, but when you can go out get a few whiting and turn them into beer batter tempura on the same day it does not get any better..
Week coming up is looking much more settled with smaller tides so spotties and schoolies should be on the bite ..and remember to take you’re butterfly nets plenty of great tasting whitebait in horseshoe bay.and yes i hand scale all my fish ,i hate the green dream nets to scale them.
hope everyone has a happy and healthy new year and good fishing.
