ARB Fridge Freezer
  |  First Published: July 2010

The versatile ARB fridge freezer will be just as at home on a boat as it would be set up in the rear of a four-wheel drive vehicle.

The fridge freezer unit has an internal capacity of 47L, as well as the capability to operate on either 12/24V DC or 100/240V AC.

These well finished and well built fridge freezers are powerful, good-sized units that come with accessories making them perfect for marine use. A tie down strap system can be used to secure the refrigerator to the floor of a boat. Each unit also comes with rubber feet integrated into the base to prevent it sliding about as well.

There’s also a dedicated transit bag with a padded lid section and while the transit bag serves to protect the unit against dings it also provides extra insulation in extreme temperatures.

These sturdy fridge freezers measure 705mm long, 380mm wide and 508mm high and with the transit bag in place, they could be used as a seat within the boat, in the same manner a lot of iceboxes are.

The German-built Danfoss compressor powers the unit. Its full freezing capability (down to -18º) or outright refrigeration settings feature an easily managed, weather resistant, front control panel with digital settings and display so the perfect degree of refrigeration can be set up from the outset. Guess work is out of the equation here.

For the boat owner there’s a lot of peace of mind via the smart electronic control system that prevents the fridge freezer from fully flattening a 12V battery. In fact the inbuilt battery protection system can be set to high, medium or low usage to avoid fully draining a boat’s power system.

Note that if a boat is equipped with a 240V system courtesy of an inverter the ARB fridge freezer will automatically default to the 240V system even if the 12V plug is still connected to a battery aboard the craft. As an added safeguard against accidentally disconnecting the power source, each power cable is clipped into the rear of the unit.

The ARB fridge freezer has other bonus features like a well sealed, entirely removable lid that has spring loaded metal dowels to instantly clip it back in place after a clean out; a drain plug in the base for easy wash out after use; plus a handy internal LED light that operates as the lid opens, which is great for finding items at night.

The unit also has a fruit/dairy compartment that keeps this dedicated area of the unit at a suitable temperature for these items, even if the main body of the unit is working at a greatly reduced temperature.

Last but not least, the ARB fridge freezer has been engineered to work in the toughest outback conditions. The powder coated zinc steel cabinet sides will easily withstand marine use, as will the tough injection moulded lid and base.

Internal dimensions of the unit come in at 285x151x206mm high for the fruit/dairy section with the main compartment measuring 285x337x401mm high. The unit has the capacity to hold a total of 72 375mL cans of drink; great for a summer’s day on the water.

In all, the ARB fridge freezer is a very useful item for boaters intending to have a good time on the water and it negates the need to constantly run ashore for fresh ice. Whether it’s a day, weekend, or longer the ARB fridge freezer will take easy care of refrigeration tasks on the water.
