Lake Awoonga Caravan Park’s No Blokes Comp held on 26-28 February was treated to three days of glorious weather and perfect fishing conditions.

Up on last year, 22 barra were caught by the 27 all-female angling field, which had travelled from all across Queensland. With lucky door draws and category winners, no one was disappointed as everyone was in with a chance to win a prize thanks to the generous sponsors.

The target species for the comp was barramundi and catfish. The majority of anglers used 110-130g plastics to either cast and retrieve or troll, with colour having little impact on the strike rate. The most popular hardbodies were Barra Classics, Gold Bombers, Shallow X-Raps, and Halcos in the 5m range.

The Biggest Barra title for the weekend was a tie, with Cheryl Grant from Sun 2 Sea Divas and Tenielle Scott of Dammit both bringing in 1050mm specimens each. Tenielle caught her barra while trolling past Dingo Island.

The charity of choice voted by the entrants was the McGrath Foundation, which received $1,855 from nomination fees. This figure was increased with extra donations and sales from No Blokes logo shirts throughout the weekend.

The sponsor support for this year’s event was outstanding with an extra 10 new sponsors coming on board to join the 28 continuing from last year. Nomination Kits were filled with hundreds of dollars worth of items, so no one went home empty-handed. And with this many sponsors, there were plenty of giveaways for the novelty prizes, Lucky Door Draw prizes, and Category prizes. Overall, there was over $37,500 worth of prizes for the event. The trophies were sponsored by 5 Star Biloela, Lake Awoonga Caravan Park, and Barra Jacks Rockhampton.

Sponsors for the event were: Australian Monofil, JM Gillies, AFN, DAIWA Australia, Outdoor Leisure Australia, Halco, Pure Fishing, Humminbird, Mad Keen, Sun Protection Australia, Angler Pacific, Pat’s Tackle World Gladstone, Tackle World Bundaberg, Barra Jacks Fishing and Outdoors Rockhampton, Jarvis Walker, Lake Awoonga Caravan Park, Todd Fishing Solutions, Lake Awoonga Guided Tours, Strikeback Tackle, Bassar Millyard, Citer Lures, River 2 Sea, Umbers Trading, Spotters, ROC Eyewear, Jackall Lures, Gladstone Marine Centre, and Dochler’s Sports Store.
