This year’s Surat Family Secret Weight Mega Fishing Competition will be held on 3-4 April and organisers are expecting to help the local environment by removing plenty of carp and exposing the wonderful fish rich waters of the Balonne River.
Last year 219 competitors, some who came from as far as Maryborough, Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast, ended up having a fantastic, fun-filled weekend of fishing.
There was a total of 50 golden perch, 27 dew (catfish) and 139 carp (weighing 143kg all together) caught over the weekend.
There were also numerous weigh-in prizes and spot prizes awarded throughout the weekend, something that will happen again this year.
The famous Black Toyota Duck Race provides great entertainment and looks like being fun again this year as people expectantly wait for the ducks to cross the finish line.
Nomination Fees are $20 for adults and only $5 for kids with the added bonus of every junior receiving a prize upon nomination. There will be prizes for catch and release, tagged fish, secret weight and sot prizes as well as a major adult prize of a boat and motor and a major junior camping package. There will also be fireworks, entertainment and the duck auction on Saturday night, with continuous weigh ins over the weekend to keep everyone up to date and informed about what’s being caught.
Please keep us in mind for this year’s fishing competition, which will be help on the Easter weekend, Saturday 3 April and Sunday 4 April 2010.
