Blue Rock the Best
  |  First Published: August 2009

When, we talk about Blue Rock Lake, the words, lake disappointment often get used; however a few local anglers have shown that Blue Rock is no disappointment at the moment.

A couple of local kayakers name Mark Mason and David Wilkinson had a great day out testing the lake 20km north of Moe. They launched at the bottom section of the dam near the wall and paddled across to the other side. They trolled around hard bodied lures such as rebel crawdads. Dave managed to catch a small brown trout of around 25cm in length; however Mark landed a ripper brown trout weighing in at just over 2 pounds in the old scale.

I thought I would also put in a photo from the last week of trout closing that didn’t make it in the last couple of issues. It’s of Darren Baumgarten and he managed to landed a massive brown trout weighing in at just under 5lbs in the old scale and measuring 57cm in length. Darren is the king of catching large trout out of small streams. When the trout season opens on September 4 we will really have something to look forward to. There are some new Celta Colours out now and some new ripper trout plastics that I’m dying to try in our local Gippsland streams.

For more information, contact Will at Allways Angling in Traralgon on 51748544 and ask him about the best trout soft plastics around and how to rig and use them.
