Lakes Fish Well

Well, our least favourite time for us trout anglers has arrived. But it wont be long to we are casting a line for a trout again when the season opens in September.

Recently most anglers have been focusing the efforts in the lakes and impoundments. Blue Rock Lake has been producing some nice brown trout. I spoke to a few anglers who have been trolling the edges of the lake with Tassie Devils and have been landing brown trout up to 40cm in length.

Over the school holidays, many of our young anglers were fishing Lake Hyland after fisheries stocked it. Powerbait was obviously the thing to use as I could barely keep enough in stock. Many anglers were catching rainbow trout up to 1kg using this artificial bait. It shows that the dedicated stocking program of our premier trout lakes have been a success.

I thought I would put in a couple of photos from the last week of trout season just to get anglers primed for the up-coming opening in September.

Young Jack Moon and Ben Coffey did very well fishing the Morwell River during the closing weekend where both boys managed to land a 38cm brown trout each using worms. John Moon also did very well landing a 42cm brown trout using worms as well.

Mick Gned almost landed a beauty on a small Gulp minnow, again in the Morwell River, he estimated the trout to be around 3 pounds in the old scale, but the fish managed to win its freedom close to the bank.
