Some great fun has been had in the Eden area with the river, beaches, rocks and offshore all fishing well but with the onset of Winter most action will slow so get out there and wet a line while it’s still happening.

Offshore action has been excellent with reports from Eden up to Batemans Bay of good yellowfin tuna between 20kg and 80kg. The bulk of the action has been out on the continental shelf with fish taking live slimies and yakkas and trolled lures.

The action will be short-lived as the cold water flushes the pool of warm water containing the fish off to the north.

Albacore and mako sharks have also been caught in the same areas as the yellowfin.

Closer to shore, small snapper, morwong and leatherjackets are being caught around the headlands and reefs.

Kingfish are still being caught but the cold weather will put an end to chasing kingies until next season. They were temperamental this past season, biting one day but not the next.

Flathead have been productive around the pinnacles along with the odd gummy shark.

The beaches have been good with salmon leading the way. Find a good gutter and work a rising tide for best results on fish to 3kg.

The washes around the headlands are good places to target the salmon with tailor to 1.5kg also being encountered.

The rivers have been good with catches of yellowfin bream, black bream, trevally, whiting and tailor on worm baits.

The best action has been at Wonboyn with anglers also encountering some good estuary perch there as well.

Anyone who fishes for perch understands that the key to catching them is to know where they live. They can be caught all year round in areas where you can hear the surf breaking. This is also why any smart perch angler guards the locations where they repeatedly catch fish.

On a sadder note, a recent boating accident highlights the changes that can be encountered offshore when a 7m boat capsized 15km out to sea. One person drowned and a passing boat saved the three occupants.

If conditions look dodgy, it pays to have a lifejacket on.
