Dry argument at Ballarat
  |  First Published: February 2009

Ballarat and district is once again very quiet on the fishing front, simply because we don’t have much of the all important ingredient: water. But, hey, that’s only a minor thing. No water is not going to stop us diehard fishos. We will get into the car and travel!

We do have some excellent news in the form of trout being released into Lake Fyans up in the Grampians region. We have to congratulate all parties involved including Fisheries, Grampians water and VRFish for finally putting politics aside and agreeing to release trout back into the lake. It has been some four years since we had a stocking of trout, and fish stocks were getting very low. I look forward to fishing up there in the next few months on evening and after dark, when the trout come in around the shoreline chasing mudeyes as they crawl out of the water to hatch into dragon flies.

Other waters not too far from Ballarat include lakes Purrumbete and Bullen Merri down at Camperdown, and also Wartook and Bellfield lakes in the Grampians regions. Ensure that you go at the right times evening and first light during the summer period.
