THE THIRD Annual Tweed River Classic is set to draw big crowds again when it gets underway on January 9-11, 2004, at the Jack Evans Boat Harbour at Tweed Heads.
As the major fundraising event for the Point Danger Volunteer Marine Rescue (VMR), the three-day Classic will see an expected field of over 300 entrants fish estuary and offshore around the Tweed River and Tweed Bar.
The major prize package consists of a Polycraft 4.1m open boat, Yamaha outboard motor, Matrix fishfinder, Minn Kota electric trolling motor, a trailer from RM Trailers, bimini from GMK Marine Covers and a range of rods and reels courtesy of Wilson. The prize will be given away via a random draw on the final day of the competition. An All Rounder Tuff Duck 380 boat is also being raffled on the last day of the event, with tickets available now from the Point Danger Mariners Club and VMR shop.
A huge ‘catch and release’ tank will be a highlight of the 2004 competition, with second chance and daily fish draws, live weigh-ins, displays, stalls and food outlets all combining to create a fantastic family event. A special children’s section will have its own prizes and giveways.
NSW Fisheries scientists will be using the competition to conduct research to help maintain quality recreational fishing. All participants who help in the research go in the draw to win a Shimano fishing outfit.
To register simply visit the Point Danger Mariners Club/Point Danger VMR at the Captain Cook Lighthouse, Coolangatta or phone 0422 580 020 (Chris Reynolds) or 5536 1931 (Barry de Hayr). Those who register before December 15 go in the draw for a special early entry prize. – BLAReads: 730
