Team takes time out for cricket
  |  First Published: December 2003

THE THIRD annual Bjelke-Petersen Dam Golden Lure Tournament, held on November 1-2, was won by Team Shikaree, made up of three generations of Morgensterns – grandfather Darrel, father Bruce and junior competitor Daniel.

Their total of 20.6m of fish won them the Caloundra City Powerboats Champion Team category, edging out Team Predatek (20.36m). Bruce actually had to leave his team mates on the Saturday afternoon to play cricket for Blackbutt against Murgon, but he would have been better off staying at the dam – he didn’t bother the cricket scorers and was thinking of fishing the whole time!

Daniel Morgenstern took out the Champion Junior Angler trophy (8.47m) while Darrel caught the longest golden perch (57cm). The longest bass (53cm) was caught by Bill Tobin from Team Wifebreak. The Yallakool Tourist Park Champion Angler was Vern Page (10.6m) who just edged out Glen Radunz from The Dream Catchers (10.5).

In trying conditions, the 117 competitors in 58 teams did well to amass a total of 1002 fish caught and released on lures.
