Rocky Barra Bounty 2006
  |  First Published: November 2005

The 2006 Rocky Barra Bounty was a huge success with 64 teams vying for some great prizes and the thrill of winning one of the many section titles.

Fewer fish were measured and tagged than in 2005, however the average size fish remained reasonably consistent with the previous years with 109 barramundi measured for a length of 55.255m. That gave an average barramundi length of just under 51cm.

Overall 187 fish were measured and tagged with 10 species making up the catch list. Species such as flathead, salmon, cod and mangrove jack were tagged and released back into the Fitzroy River system.

The section winners included Creek to Coast (Craig Griffiths/Justin Bradford) in the lure section who tagged 11 barramundi for a length of 5.745m. The bait section was taken out by 2 Basscoe (Rosscoe James/Jim Oostenbroek) who landed 10 barramundi for a total measurement of 4.87m. The overall individual winner came from the Creek to Coast team with Craig Griffiths landing eight barra for 4.27m, just holding out Rosscoe James from 2 Basscoe with eight barra for 3.78m.

The biggest barra landed for the tournament was a sensational 102cm caught by Rod Fogarty from Team TiCA on bait in the city reaches of the river (within sight of the Barra Bounty headquarters at the Fitzroy Motor Boat Club).
