THE BJELKE-PETERSEN Dam Inland Fishing Classic has established itself as one of the premier recreational competitions in Southeast Queensland. This year’s event will be held over the weekend of October 2-3, and all profits go towards restocking BP Dam.
This fun family comp has heaps of prize categories. There are lucky draws for the major prizes, secret weight prizes for all the major fish species across the entire weekend, and a Catch and Release category. There are separate divisions for the kids, although they are also eligible for the main prizes.
The major prize this year is a $1000 open order provided by the Bjelke-Petersen Dam Fish Management Committee. The open order may be redeemed at any one of the Gold Sponsors of the winner’s choice.
As usual, there will be a major raffle offering between 50 and 100 lures.
The entry fee for the comp is $15, which includes the Catch and Release category and entry into all the lucky draws. To be eligible for the Early Bird draw, entries need to be received by 5pm on September 29. Other entries will be taken from 4pm Friday October 1, and over the weekend. There will be two weigh-ins on Saturday and one on Sunday.
Accommodation is available at Yallakool Tourist Park, BP Dam (ph. (07) 4168 4746). A bar, barbeque, food and drink stalls will be available at the competition venue all weekend. Other meals and tackle are available at the Yallakool Café.
Fishing permits (SIPs) are required for all persons 18 years of age and over. If you forget to buy a permit before the comp, they are available at the Yallakool Tourist Park.
