Perkins takes out tough Stessl Challenge
  |  First Published: May 2003

HELD on Somerset Dam over the weekend of March 15-16, the second round of the Stessl Family Bass challenge was one of the toughest to date. Somerset had risen four to five metres since the last round, causing the bass to scatter and be more difficult to entice.

Tony Perkins from Nanango took top honours using deep fly, soft plastics and trolling techniques. On Saturday Tony took all his fish on deep fly, using a purple and black Bass Vampire. On Sunday morning Tony was forced to change to an Ausspin 1/2 Oz jighead and pumpkin slider, snaring a 47cm fish. He trolled up his second bass for the session on a purple Blitz Bagga.

Jay Morgan finished in second place by spinnerbaiting the recently flooded banks using Terminator and Harry Watson Spinnerbaits on Day One, and .measuring in a modest limit on Day Two using Rahula ice jigs.

In the junior section, Dylan Donahue fished hard to take top honours trolling Lure Logic, Brocket lures. Brendan O’Reilly used Nitro jigheads and Atomic Bass Grubs to catch the biggest bass in the juniors at 455mm, and take out second position.
