2003 Longtail Tuna Chase

IDEAL weather prevailed at Mooloolaba during the Salt Water Flyfishers Assoc. Sunshine Coast Inc. Longtail Tuna Chase 2003 competition held between March 28 and 30. A record 73 anglers competed, resulting in 82 longtail tuna being captured on fly and released. 190 mack tuna were also caught and released, giving a total of 272 fish caught in two days of fishing.

Scott Matthews became this year’s Champion Male Angler, after capturing 12 longtails and 22 macks for a total of 82 points. Runner-up was local fly fisherman, and Club Vice President, Steve Dahl with 11 longtails and 19 macks for 74 points.

Maria Platz won the Champion Female Angler with four longtails for a total of 20 points. There were five female competitors in the comp. Matthew Scheimer took out the Champion Junior Angler category, capturing six macks and scoring six points.

The Team Trophy was won by Scott Matthews and Shaun Ryan, while husband and wife team Bruce and Tammie Nitschke won the Crazy Charlie Award.
