  |  First Published: April 2005

The Rotary Club of Nerang, on behalf of its major sponsor Blue Fin Boats and in conjunction with the Hinze Dam Fishing Club, will host the Rotary Blue Fin Hinze Dam Classic over the long weekend in May (April 30 – May 2).

The catch and release competition is open to shore and boat anglers, and there are prizes in a variety of categories including lure, bait and fly. This open format is sure to appeal to many anglers. There are prizes for the biggest fish of each species, but bass are the main target species.

Prizes for Senior and Junior in the baitfishing section and prizes for Senior and Junior in the lurefishing section will be judged on a point-based system, and the flyfishing section and shore-based section will follow a similar path.

Camping is free for competitors in the shady parkland below the dam wall, so get in early to secure a great camp site. There are heaps of prizes plus some great entertainment and food provided by Rotary with the help of local charities, the Mudgeeraba Special School and Lifeline.

Included in your entry this year is the chance to win one of two Blue Fin Boat and trailer packages, a Macs Lure, Inox products, a competition shirt and lunch packs for both competition days. For competitors thinking of entering for the first time, remember Hinze Dam is an electric motor only waterway and petrol outboards need to be removed.

You can register on Friday night from 6.30pm and the prize giving and the two boat giveaways will start at 1pm on Sunday. With over $25,000 worth of prizes and trophies up for grabs, it promises to be a great way to spend your long weekend.
