  |  First Published: April 2003

HELD on February 8 and 9, the 2003 Boondooma Dam Fishing Competition attracted 493 competitors who caught 652 fish. Of these fish, 283 were golden perch, 135 were Australian bass, two were silver perch, 85 were jew and 147 were spangled perch. This year only two tilapia were caught, which is a big improvement over previous years.

The Heaviest Golden Perch category was won by Gary Welldon, with a 2.05kg fish, and Jack Steers won the Heaviest Bass with a 2.16kg fish. The junior prizes for the same categories were taken out by Bradley Humberdross and Rebecca Evans.

The Boondooma Dam Fish Stocking and Management Association and Proston Local Ambulance Committee would like to thank all competitors, the Queensland Boating and Fisheries Officers and the competition’s many sponsors. Special thanks go to Burrum Heads Amateur Fishing Club who donated $500 for fish stocking, and also to Allround Angler who donated the prizes for the weigh-ins. – Alan Keates.
