Once again, The Moreton Bay Game Fish Club is holding the popular Shark Fishing Classic, which includes both boating and land-based divisions.
This year the Classic has been brought forward to the weekend of February 12-13 to take advantage of the warmer conditions, which see Moreton Bay’s shark population at its most active. Whalers and hammerheads are readily available to any angler with a line in the water at this time of the year, and other shark species are also on the cards.
Points will be awarded for tagged sharks as well as captures which exceed six times the line-class. New categories have been added this year, including Champion Family Team and First Hammerhead Tagged.
Local marine biologists and scientific groups will be using any captured sharks to aid their research.
A free seminar featuring local shark fishing enthusiasts will precede the tournament on the evening of February 1. This seminar is open to anyone, regardless of whether they intend to fish the tournament. The tournament briefing will be held on the evening of February 10.
Entry fees are $50 for seniors and $30 for juniors. Enquiries for the seminar and tournament brochures can be directed to Noel Webb on (07) 3286 9288 or (07) 3286 5762, or by emailing --e-mail address hidden-- See you there. - Moreton Bay Game Fish ClubReads: 1534
