Longtail Tuna on Fly Tournament
  |  First Published: February 2004

FROM March 12 to 14, 2004 the inaugural Longtail Tuna on Fly Invitational Challenge will be held on the Sunshine Coast as the premier event of the Kawana Waters Boat Show and Fishing Expo 2004.

With the annual migration of these spectacular fish along the coast from Noosa to Caloundra, fly anglers from all over the country are being invited to pit their skills against these speedsters. Local and international competitors will enjoy drinks and nibblies at the briefing, compliments of Kawana Waters Hotel and major sponsor Carlton United Breweries. Trophies for winners in selected categories will be a selection of flies tied by the world’s leading fly anglers including Bob Clouser, Cam Sigler, Jack Samson, Lefty Kreh, Dan Blanton and Kate Howe to name a few, and will be unique mementos of the weekend. The event will be hosted by Steve Starling and Kaj Busch.

The Longtail Tuna on Fly Invitational Challenge is included in the Australian Tuna on Fly Circuit, which is made up of a number of flyfishing competitions from Hervey Bay to Bribie Island – all aimed at raising public awareness of these magnificent fish. The competitions are strictly catch and release and are intended to highlight the fishery and the need to develop strategies to sustain and manage the resource responsibly.
