The fourth annual Golden Lure Tournament, held on November 13-14 at Bjelke-Petersen Dam, saw Cameron Bettany of Samford and Bob Town of Goombungee walk away with the major accolades for their team Cam & Bob.

Fishing with Jackall lipless rattling minnows in the bottom part of the dam, they put together a total of 38.47m of legal size fish caught and released. Cameron and Bob each received take-home trophies sponsored by North Coast Boating Centre on the Sunshine Coast, custom Evakool 65-litre iceboxes, tackle boxes full of lures and other prizes, as well as getting their team name inscribed on the perpetual Keith Patten Memorial shield.

They just edged out Team EvaKool (Murgon locals Matthew Mott and his daughter Monique), who amassed 36.32m on trolled SMAK 5/8oz spinnerbaits. Matt and Monique each received trophies sponsored by Kingaroy Caravan and Tractor Centre, Daiwa Heartland rod/baitcasting reel combos and tackle boxes full of tackle. Monique also took out the Junior category with 16.43m of fish, and was awarded a Ken Mills Toyota sponsored trophy. The Junior Runner-up was Trevor Foote of Bribie Island from Team Lured In, with 14.51m. He also received a Ken Mills Toyota trophy.

The third place team were David Green of Toowoomba and Steve Kanowski of Brisbane from Team Angler Rods, who put together 35.52m of fish by fishing mostly soft plastics. David and Steve each walked away with Daiwa Heartland rod/spinning reel combinations and tackle boxes full of tackle.

David had to get up a short time after to receive his Yallakool Tourist Park Champion Angler trophy and a place in history on the perpetual shield. His winning total was 20.62m and he was presented with his trophies by Alan Walters of the park. In second place was Matthew Mott with 19.89m who won his own trophy sponsored by Yallakool Café.

Wondai’s Robert Smith of the team So Many Lures, So Little Time won the SB Vending Longest Australian Bass trophy with a 51cm fish. Although plenty more 51cm fish were caught, this was the earliest verified at 10.23am on Saturday morning. This fish hit a trolled SMAK 5/8oz spinnerbait.

William Schloss, a junior angler from Dalby from Team Fishin’ Mate, took out the SB Vending Longest Golden Perch trophy, with a 54cm fish taken trolling a black Hotlips lure on the Saturday afternoon.

The winner of the major raffle sponsored by Dairy Farmers was Trent Lester of Wondai, who received a 51cm colour TV. Continuing with the prize haul amassed by the Mott family, young Dylan Mott was the second name drawn out, winning himself a DVD player

The 125 competitors in 62 teams caught and released 1345 30cm+ fish in a day and a half, all on lures. Bass outnumbered golden perch by 960 to 379, and two silver perch were caught along with four eel-tail catfish. One 3cm long mussel was also caught.
