  |  First Published: October 2005

It’s on again, one of Australia’s most eagerly anticipated fishing and social events, the 2005 Yamaha Cod Classic.

With over $100,000 prizes on offer, including an unprecedented 5 boat/motor/trailer packages, you would be crazy to miss this great weekend in Yarrawonga/Mulwala with the chance to ‘catch a legend’.

Organisation is well underway for the 2005 Yamaha Cod Classic with the guarantee of a great weekend for all those who participate.

December 3 and 4 will see Lake Mulwala and the Murray River come alive with an estimated 1,100 boats and 2,300-plus competitors taking part.

The Cod Classic is a total catch and release event for all native species.

Designed to cater for all levels of fishing skill ranging from the bank or a boat, using bait or lures, everybody has the same chance of winning one of the many major prizes on offer over the weekend.

All prizes are drawn from a barrel regardless of the size and length of your fish, giving everyone who catches a fish an equal chance.

A new exciting addition to this year’s competition is that the 5th boat/motor/trailer package will be given away to somebody who enters as an ‘early bird entrant’ (paid up before 18 November).

The other 4 boat/motor/trailer packages will be given away as the major lucky door prize, raffle prize, Murray cod mystery draw and European carp mystery draw.

All the popular event features remain, including Flathead Fred for the juniors, tournament briefings, the ever-popular ‘Cod Gods’ doing their catch and release and big fish handling clinics hourly on Friday night and Barefoot Dave’s casting clinics.

All registrations and meals are to take place at the Mulwala football ground and all prize presentations are to be on the Saturday night, leaving only the fishing sections to be presented on the Sunday.

There will be roving marshals on the lake (they’ll measure natives only) as well as the Mulwala Water Ski Club Pro and Amateur Casting Championships.

With numerous great sponsors and more coming on board daily, there will be over 1,200 prizes for adults and 150 for juniors.

Boat/motor/trailer packages, sounders, interstate guided fishing tours, holidays, fishing gear, camping equipment and clothing are just a few of the prizes on offer.

All prizes will be distributed Saturday night through a raffle draw based on your competitor registration number.

Entry for the competition is $65 for adults and $25 for juniors. This includes 4 meals, souvenir stubby holder, one free ticket in our major raffle, Hooksafe (kids), entry into thousands of lucky door prize draws and the promise of a great weekend.
