MotorGuide Lenthalls BASS Electric
  |  First Published: August 2005

Lenthalls Dam, near Hervey Bay in Queensland, re-opened early in June after being closed for refurbishments since January, and this provided great fishing for the ABT BASS Electric event held there on June 12.

On a picture perfect day, 35 anglers fishing from 22 boats took part in the event. Plenty of full limits were delivered to the scales, with a total of 61 fish weighed in, the largest tipping the scales at 1.67kg. It was captured by Mr ‘Bassman Spinnerbaits’ Glen Casey on a 1⁄2oz Bassman spinnerbait in one of his new skirt colours.

This piscatorial paradise is surrounded by the state forest outside of Maryborough. With countless arms and bays to explore it is considered the prime spot to capture big bass or even score a barramundi. Not a bad by-catch when targeting bass.

As well as winning the Big Bass title, Glen Casey finished first overall, claiming the EvaKool esky and prize pack.

Fishing a slope between 14 and 20 feet, Glen cast to the edge of the lily pads to claim the majority of his fish. His tournament winning tackle included a GL3 Loomis rod matched to a Daiwa CVX reel, spooled with 10lb Gorilla braid and 20lb leader.

With further work still to be done to the campgrounds, and the promising bags caught on the weekend, Lenthalls is sure to become a popular spot with bass anglers and future comps. - Marcel Kreiger
