Del Rio Hawkesbury River Fishing Classic
  |  First Published: October 2004

THE DEL RIO Hawkesbury River Fishing Classic will be held at the Del Rio Riverside Resort on the weekend of October 30-31, 2004.

Anglers entering the Del Rio Hawkesbury River Fishing Classic will be competing for prizes for heaviest fish overall, heaviest of species and mystery weight prize with three sections – Open, Ladies and Juniors.

The lucky draw prize will be a Stacer Pro Line with 5hp Mariner motor on Stacer trailer, donated by Sue and Roger Huett of Huett Marine Centre, Cowan.

All proceeds will be donated to that wonderful organization ‘Youth off the Streets’, run by Father Chris Riley. The event will also assist researchers to examine the survival of mulloway after being released by typical recreational practices. The NSW Department of Primary Industries is currently doing research with recreational anglers to estimate and maximise the survival of released line-caught fish. This work is being funded by the Saltwater and Freshwater Trust, and the first event (the Botany Bay Research Challenge) was successfully completed during February 2004 and has already provided important preliminary information on the effects of some fishing practices on the post-release survival of snapper, bream, trevally and flathead.
