Bass with variety
  |  First Published: August 2008

The Variety Children’s Bass on Fly competition got the thumbs up all round from anglers. The weather predication was for a good weekend and it didn’t let us down, with competitors hitting the water at 6am with near perfect conditions.

The morning stayed dead calm with just a breeze passing you ears as the morning went on.

Sunday’s fishing started at 5:30am, yet the morning weather was not as kind with five to ten knot winds putting a twist to the morning’s angling.

The tournaments first and second placings stayed steady for the whole tournament. Peter Bell dropped into third place with a couple of recorded under-size fish, which put Norm Good into fourth place. Second place was taken out by Jeff Christoffel with one spangled perch, while Denis Shaw’s, with a straightened hook, stole first place.

The sponsors’ prizes were a further addition to the tournament. River City Marine Loop Fly Rods, Marshall Batteries at Greenslopes, Russell Maudsley from BP Boonah, The Tackle Warehouse, Australian Hotel Boonah, BCF Cannon Hill, Outdoors and More from Boonah, Boonah Butchery and Camp Lake Fire were the generous sponsors for this prize. Many thanks to all our sponsors and competitors.

We hope to see you all at the next Variety Children’s Fly Fishing Competition, including the Variety Children’s Toga on Fly Competition on 26-28 September at Lake Borumba. – VCBC
