  |  First Published: November 2006

It’s on again, Australia’s richest freshwater fishing tournament and the most eagerly anticipated fishing and social event of the year, the 2006 Yamaha Cod Classic.

Organization is well underway for the 2006 Yamaha Cod Classic with the guarantee of a great weekend for all those who participate. With well over $100,000 in prizes to give away including 6 Boat, Motor and Trailer packages, that’s right, 6 boat, motor and trailer packages. December 2 and 3 will see Lake Mulwala and the Murray River come alive with an estimated 1,200 boats and 2,500 plus competitors taking part.

The Cod Classic is a total catch and release event for all native species. Designed to cater for all levels of fishing skill ranging from bank or boat, using bait or lures, everybody has the same chance of winning one of the many major prizes on offer. All prizes are drawn from a barrel regardless of the size/length of your fish giving everyone who catches a fish an equal chance.

Another boat has been added to the prize pool from last year, bringing the prize pool of boat packages to an amazing six. The additional boat will be given away as a major lucky door prize with junior entrants being able to win this also. The other five boat, motor, trailer and sounder package remain and they will be given away by the means of Major lucky door prize, Raffle prize, Murray cod mystery draw, European carp mystery draw and Early bird entrant (paid up before 17th Nov).

All the popular features will remain including Flathead Fred for the juniors, tournament briefings, the ever popular “Cod Gods” doing their catch and release and big fish handling clinics hourly on Friday night and Dave “The Barefoot Fisherman” Hodge’s casting clinics. All registrations and meals to take place at the Mulwala football ground, all prize presentations will be on the Saturday night leaving only the fishing sections to be presented on the Sunday. Roving marshals on the lake will measure natives only, while the Mulwala Water Ski Club Pro and Amateur Casting Championships will be a hit too.

With numerous great sponsors and more coming on board daily, there will be over 1200 prizes (adults) and all juniors will receive a prize. Boat, motor and trailer packages, sounders, interstate guided fishing tours, holidays, fishing gear, camping equipment and clothing just to name a few. All prizes will be distributed Saturday night through a raffle draw based on your competitor registration number.

Entry for the competition will be Adults $65 and juniors $25. This includes 4 meals, souvenir stubby holder, one free ticket in our major raffle, Bassman Spinnerbait (kids), entry into 1000’s of lucky door prize draws and the promise of a great weekend.
