KID’S FISHING SUCCESS
  |  First Published: July 2008

Tackleworld Cairns and Erskine’s Tackleworld combined in late May to hold another hugely successful kid’s fishing clinic at the Mountain Shadows Barra Farm near Gordonvale. The novel venue was such a success last year that organizers and farm owner Nick Barrett were very keen to stage the clinic at the barra farm again this year.

Bookings were full before the event, with 120 eager anglers and their families descending on the farm for an 8am start with each child was given two Squidgie Slick Rigs to start fishing. The weather leading up to the event was colder than last year and the barra were a bit slow at first, though the action sure picked up as the day warmed and time raced towards the 11am finish.

Kids, big and small, had a ball catching around 100 barra, with the biggest going a very impressive 4.3 kilos, which was caught by four year old Zane Faulstrom. While some kids didn’t manage to land a fish there was plenty of action all around them and the excitement permeated the crowd. It was a fantastic experience to wander around helping kids and parents set up their gear and see the excitement and enthusiasm on the children’s faces.

There were a lot of repeat kids from last year who got hooked on fishing and couldn’t wait for the event to be repeated. Thanks must go to Nick Barrett, owner of Mountain Shadows Barra Farm, the small army of volunteers and Dunphy Sports Fishing, Jarvis Walker and L Wilson & Co for their generous sponsorship.
