4BC and Suncorp Support Family Fishing
  |  First Published: July 2008

The inaugural 4BC/Suncorp Family Fishing and Boating Classic will be held on August 2 and 3 at the spacious grounds at Manly Foreshore near the Manly Yacht Club.

This event, unlike most fishing competitions, will aim to include the entire family with shore-based events as well as the fishing competitions. The major prize of a sensational $10,000 boat, motor and trailer package, with Suncorp insurance will be a random draw, meaning you only have to enter to be in with a chance to win.

The fishing competitions are split into two categories: Boats Under 15m and Kids Fishing Comp. Target species include whiting, crab, bream, snapper and pelagic (which may be broken into various pelagic species). Prizes will be awarded for the biggest catch and of course the junior anglers will all go into the numerous draws for random giveaways.

On shore there will be plenty of action. There will be seminars and guest speakers, live radio on Saturday morning with 4BC and Dave ‘Nugget’ Downie, as well as kids clinics to teach them how it’s all done. On the Sunday it is planned to have Sundaes on the beach.

Sundaes on the beach is a simple free ice-cream day for all the kids (and parents) who have entered the tournament. And Fishing Monthly will be sending the boaters away between 5am and 7am each morning with a free egg and bacon sandwich for registered anglers.

Registration is compulsory before you can fish and is free to anyone with Suncorp boat insurance or those who spend over $100 at a BCF store. People wishing to enter, the costs are $20 for a family pass, $20 per boat or $20 for a child’s pass.

Log onto www.4bc.com.au for the most up-to-date information as additional seminars, clinics and attractions are being added to the event almost daily. – Stephen Booth
