Basstasstic 2008 Southern Round
  |  First Published: June 2008

The first Barra & Basstasstic 2008 Southern Round was held at Borumba Dam on the 15 and 16 of March. The event holds three sessions for the weekend, two on Saturday and one on Sunday, for anglers to catch their bag limit of two bass.

The dam was at 100% capacity after the recent rains, and as the boats roared up the dam it was obvious that most anglers were set to fish the timbers. During the first morning the wind increased from nothing to quite strong.

One of the first anglers to weigh in was Jarrard Barkley. He had his bag limit of two fish and managed to measure one to 41.5cm to the fork. Other anglers soon approached the weighmaster with their two fish and any thoughts of the dam fishing hard after the recent rain was quickly forgotten.

Unfortunately for Jarrard, his big bass was soon overtaken by Kingsley Farr who produced a 42cm specimen from his live well – the biggest for the event.

After two days and three sessions, three anglers were victorious: Jarrard Barkley for 775mm on Saturday morning; Bruce Horsfall for 638mm on Saturday afternoon; and, Graham Walker for 817mm on Sunday. – Russell Nowland
