Local lakes firing

Both lakes MacDonald and Borumba have delivered the goods during the summer build up.

MacDonald has seen some pretty hot sessions with locals Andrew Grabham enjoying great sessions around dawn on surface fly whilst seasoned pro Mark Pertot has seen plenty of big bass taken on Jackalls imported range of sinking bibless lures.

Both anglers have moved into new boats of late for different reasons. Grabs has chosen a bow rider configuration which allows anglers to enjoy the freedom of a forward casting platform. The cover for the kids is diminished somewhat but the fishability is enhanced. Watch for Grabs on the next edition of The Fishing DVD‚ enjoying some hot fly action with the legendary Peter Morse on Lake MacDonald.

Mark Pertot has been sorting out a boat that he won in the Stessl comps a year or so back. Purely a bass boat, this is set up for tournament fishing with the deck layout customized to suit individual’s needs. Mark hasn’t quite finished his Bass Boss yet, but it is sure to be a tricked up boat when has completes the job.

Bait fishing in the impoundments seems to take a back seat to lure and flyfishing. There are a few dedicated bait anglers still fishing the dams especially Borumba. Worms and shrimp are very good baits for native freshwater fish and some fishos even use strips of beef under a float. Whatever works is a good option I suppose!
