Hervey Bay Family Fishing Competition
  |  First Published: February 2006

Hundreds of prizes will won at this year’s Hervey Bay Family Fishing Competition organised by the Hervey Bay Boat Club Fishing Club. The event will be held from March 9-12.

The 14th annual competition will be based at Fisherman’s Park on the corner of the Esplanade and Boat Harbour Drive next to Urangan Fisheries.

It’s shaping up to be the biggest event yet and you don’t even have to catch a fish to be in the running for most of the prizes.

Many entrants don’t fish at all and simply go along to enjoy the atmosphere at the presentation, sample the food and entertainment and perhaps even win a boat or prize in the lucky draw. A licensed bar, soft drinks and plenty of hot food will be available.

The official opening will be at 6pm on March 9, where competitors will be welcomed and briefed on the tournament rules. The early entry draw will be for $250 and $100 worth of tackle from Fisherman’s Corner and then the first four daily draws with 12 adult and five junior competitor’s names will go into the barrel for the major prize draw at the competition’s end.

There will be a live weigh-in for flathead bream and whiting, while the dead weigh-in species are whiting, bream, blackall, snapper, golden trevally and coral bream.

Get your entry forms in before February 15 and be in the draw for the early entry prize. Any enquiries can be directed to Hervey Bay Boat Club Fishing Club on (07) 4128 9643. – HBBCFC
