Greenback Competition enters 24th year
  |  First Published: May 2008

The Cabarita Beach/Pottsville Beach Lions Greenback Tailor Fishing Comp is on the Queens Birthday Weekend, 7-8 June 2008.

The local Lions Club runs this competition with all proceeds going to Cabarita Beach Surf Lifesaving Club and The Volunteer Rescue Association. Last year they shared $15,000 in raised funds and everyone involved is hoping they can improve on that this year.

This is the 24th year of the Greenback Competition and it regularly attracts 800-1000 entrants.

There are almost 70 sponsors giving away $30,000 in cash and prizes, so there is plenty to aim for. The major target for the weekend will be the tailor with $15,000 cash prize for the biggest. However, there are plenty of other sections for other recreational species such as bream, whiting, flathead, jewfish in senior, junior, veterans and ladies’ division.

And don’t forget the boat in the entry draw – a 3.75m Ally Craft matched to a 5hp Honda on a trailer, ready to go! You don’t even have to weigh in a fish, as long as you sign on you are eligible to win the tinnie.
