The 11th Deniliquin RSL Fishing Club Classic held on 12-14 January was a huge success.
Visitors and locals alike praised the quality of prizes provided for the catch and release competition that had 669 entrants.
Mobile marshals cruised the 17km stretch of the Edward River to ensure that fish were measured and released quickly during the three-day event.
Forty-one legal size cod and 65 yellowbelly were caught during the competition. The biggest cod measured 104cm and the biggest yellowbelly was 53cm.
Shane Gilbert from Hay was named the champion male angler while Fiona Beer from Ballarat took out champion female angler. Champion junior angler was Cassie Beer from Ballarat.
Geoff McCallum of Deniliquin won the senior major prize of a camper trailer and boat and motor package. The major junior prize of a kayak and safety gear was won by Kane Wishart from Deniliquin. – Ray JefferiesReads: 2213
