Port Albert’s offshore fishing has really started to fire with good numbers of flathead, snapper, gummies and pike taken.

Out around Cliffy Island Andrew Ward got a nice bag of pike to 3.5kg on lures being trailed around the Island and nearby Reefs.

Flathead fishing has also been good with Anthony Heneman of Moe scoring 25 good flatties during a morning’s session. Anthony also scored an 8kg gummy.

Snapper are being taken in good numbers from the reef systems. The reefs out wide of Manns have produced the best numbers of pinkie snapper.

Natalie Whelan landed a massive gummy in Whale Bay on a recent afternoon expedition. Her gummy weighed 26.5kg and took trevally fillets.

Big flathead are being taken in the shallows around Port Albert. Charles Ward reports that the shallower the water, the bigger the flathead.

Whiting are being taken in good numbers at all the usual spots.

Corey Kee got a nice surprise while fishing for gummies down at One Tree Spit. After 3 1/2 hours and 5 miles of travelling, Corey finally landed himself a nice 129kg, 8ft bronze whaler down near the Entrance. The shark was taken on a mono leader and a 4/0 hook rigged with a pillie. Lucky angler or what?
