Berkley Summer Series Round 3
  |  First Published: April 2008

A still and cloudy morning, perfect breaming weather, greeted the last fleet of 58 teams for the Summer Series season.

The most popular option was to head north from the Southport start point. This proved to be the winning pattern as all the biggest fish came from the ‘Pin and Bay area.

Team Atomic, Aaron Sharp and Rob March, lead the pack and headed north to their favourite hunting ground. Using a range of Megabass lures, the boys managed to fill their bag and deliver an impressive finish. Just as in round two, the wind picked up during the day making the run back tough, but this time Atomic were back on time. The team weighed in a winning bag of five fish for 3.78kg, as well as Big Bream for 1.29kg. The boys won them-selves a Honda Generator, 2 Minn Kota PFD’s and $900 cash.

In second place was Team Berkley Lowrance, Steve ‘Wizard’ Wilson and Sean Hanrahan. They chose to focus on the north wall of the seaway using a range of Berkley 3” Shrimps and 4” Gulp Minnows on Nitro jigheads.

Third place was taken by David McKenzie and Tristan Taylor of Team Unitika/CD Rods, followed closely by Peter Herbst and Arthur ‘Boxy’ Hatzipetrow of Team BJS Mossops who took out the Series win.

Three teams, only separated by one point each, hotly contested the race for the Series title. But only one of the three could bring home a full bag on the day. Peter and Arthur, Team BJS Mossops, collected 294 points out of a possible 300.

“It’s all about knowing which spots to fish at which part of the tide” explained Herbst.

Prizes were paid down to tenth place with a minimum prize of $200. Each team was given a bag of goodies, and giveaways of sunglasses, Engel eskies and fishing tools made it a good day for many.

Our thanks go out to all the sponsors of the Series – Berkley, Engel, Mossops, Bias Boating, Evinrude E-Tec and Honda Marine.– Gary and Elliot Fooks
