My family and I often go camping at Mission Point on Bribie Island. Mission Point is only accessible by boat. Below are some of the things we do when we go camping.

When we go camping we take a lot of supplies like rods, bait, tackle, tents, camp stretchers, chairs, tables, tarps, poles, ropes, pegs, a shovel, and an axe. This way we have everything we need to enjoy our trip.

We take iceboxes with cold blocks to keep the food nice and cool. The cold blocks last for 4-5 days depending on how many there are in the icebox. Always make sure you have plenty of food and water so you can stay hydrated.

When we set up our tent we look for the highest ground so the tent won’t flood if it rains. If there is heavy rain we might dig a trench around the tent so the water flows away from the tent. We always take a tarp so our gear does not get wet when it rains. You can also use your tarp for shade when it’s really sunny.

You should always have a fist aid kit in case you get hurt.

Make sure you bring firewood because you’re not allowed to chop down trees in national parks – it’s against the law.

Before you leave for your camping trip check that you have enough petrol for your boat or vehicle.

It’s a good idea to take a large plastic bin to put lights, salt and pepper, food, plates, sauces, Aeroguard, mosquito coils in so they can’t get wet. It also keeps animals like goannas and possums out of your food.

We always take mosquito coils and insect repellent with us to stop mosquitos and sand flies. Sunscreen is another necessity because if you get sunburnt it will make the rest of your trip very uncomfortable.

Finally, always take your rubbish home with you and leave it clean and tidy for the next lot of people to enjoy.
