The Hervey Bay Family Fishing Competition organised by the Hervey Bay Boat Club Fishing and Social Club will be held from Thursday, March 8 to Sunday, March 11.

The 15th annual competition will be held at Fisherman’s Park, on the corner of the Esplanade and Boat Harbour Drive Urangan next to Urangan Fisheries.

The 2007 comp is shaping up to be the best ever and you don‘t even have to catch a fish to be in the running for most of the hundreds of prizes.

Many entrants don‘t fish at all and simply go along to enjoy the atmosphere at the presentations, partake in the food and refreshments and perhaps win a boat or one of the hundreds of prizes in the lucky draws.

There will be a licensed bar plenty of soft drinks and lots of hot food for everyone.

The Competitions official opening will take place at 6pm Thursday, March 8, where competitors will be welcomed and advised of the rules of the competition and then the first of 4 daily draws will be held with 12 senior competitors and 5 junior competitors numbers being drawn out to go into the barrells for the Major Prize draws at the end of the competition.

The live weigh-in will be sponsored by Tackle World Hervey Bay with eligible species flathead (live only), bream and whiting.

Species of fish eligible for the dead weigh-in are whiting, blackall, bream, snapper, golden trevally and coral bream.

Each day draws will take place for12 adult numbers and 5 junior numbers to go into the Major Prize draws which are held on Sunday afternoon followed by the Super Draw prizes for the Barney’s Marine 4.3m Blue Fin Discovery and the Jack Casey Motor Centre Computer System for the juniors.

Thanks to the excellent support and generosity of local business houses the competition has been a huge success each year, so make plans now to enter this popular competition, get your entry forms in by February 14 and be in the draw for the early entry prizes.
