Mark your calendar for the Austackle Flathead Classic
  |  First Published: February 2016

2016 is the 3rd year the Austackle Flathead Classic will be run. The same group that have previously run this awesome competition, will be taking the reigns again this year. With a brand new club in Lakes Entrance, The Lakes Entrance Game and Sport Fishing Club, a family friendly club who promotes catch and release and welcomes all, will be holding the competition.

We are hoping that the Austackle Flathead Classic becomes an annual pilgrimage for fishing families to Lakes Entrance.

The Austackle Flathead Classic is proudly organised by the Lakes Entrance Game And Sport Fishing Club. The event is run out of the Carpenter Street hall where we will have displays, as well as tackle gear and boating for sale. This is a catch and release tournament, with all fish measured, photographed and recorded before being released to swim again. While the focus is on flathead, the biggest whiting will receive another great prize. Additionally, there will be the Austackle ‘Classic Moment’ photo competition. All you need to do is take a photo wearing an Austackle hat; we had so many great photos last year. There will be secret weights, junior prizes, along with some great give aways.

The innumerable waterways from Lakes Entrance to Lake Tyres, offer a countless number of fishing spots with many lakes, estuary systems, creeks, rivers and islands providing protection from wind. This area offers some of the best flathead habitat in the country and is accessible to the average angler by boat or car. There are also some great camping locations making this the ultimate family competition.

Registration will take place online from January 2016, and if you get in early you could win $250 in prizes in the early bird draw entry before the 1st of March 2016. Entries will be taken Friday 11th March from 2-8pm and Saturday 12 March 8am-2pm, Sunday 13 March 8am-12pm from the Carpenter St hall. Fishing over the two days, with the presentation on Sunday afternoon. This allows time to travel home on Sunday late afternoon, or Monday morning, which is a public holiday

Entry fee for seniors is $25, and juniors under 18 fish for $10.

Feedback from previous competitors describe the Flathead Classic as a great family friendly fun weekend away with lots of great prizes.

This competition welcomes and caters for all anglers, regardless of experience. So bring your family and friends, load up your boat, kayak, or just your fishing gear and fish some the most wonderful waterways in East Gippsland.

The event is well supported by sponsors and the local community.
